Description Not much but felt like adding something here. It's the same room as the previous Hero screenshot, but this shows the new dialogue box thing I've added into the game (with help from Eo member ChevyRay for coding). Also gives the first close up shot of the younger, more athletic Chase who appears here with her 'Bubblegum Crisis' inspired helmet with it's visor up to show her face. Her other portrait pics will usually show it up too, with the player sprite also showing this (unlike the above pic). There will be a couple with the visor down for battle scenes and maybe another reason. It's just easier to show expressions with the visor up obviously.

jejeje sorry dinΒ΄t check the date but still great work what programs you use for the process? IΒ΄m been thinking of designing my own 2d game but I donΒ΄t know were to star.

I sprite in Pro Motion 6 but the game itself is made using Game Maker 8 which is simple to begin with but lets you get quite advanced eventually and it's really, really cheap price for the full version. I really enjoy using it.

Yowz! This is awesome - I loved the original Hero. Part of its charm though was the extremely desolate feeling induced by the sparse graphics and audio, it'll be interesting to see how you re-interpret it with more advanced assets.

I sure hope you manage to work this thing at least far enough to provide a few-level demo that we can enjoy. I know how bloody hard it can be to take a game beyond the "cool, all the mechanics sort of work now!" and into a full-blown multi-level package.

Do you have the audio/music bit covered, by the way? I have some experience with NES-style sound effect and music tinkering that might be useful in a pinch.

Keep working it, looking great so far!

Hey thanks. Yeah the actual level design process is a lot harder than I think most people think and just as crucial if not moreso than other aspects.

This Hero is a fair bit more action orientated with more shooting, power ups, upgrades and all that, though there are several quiet moody exploration moments. Hope thats ok.

Yeah I do already have a sound guy who's provided me with some great music he's composed in NSF format for this Prelude (soundtracks pretty much complete with a title theme, death theme and individual themes for each of the 6 stages, though I'll ask him for boss battle music when I've designed those scenes) and the later main game. He's a very fast worker too and I really do like his tunes. He's also doing the sound effects (a few done now, and the majority to be done when I provide a more comprehensive list of what needs to be done, obviously when I have more of the game done). Thanks for the offer though. Much appreciated

Heh, some additional digging in your gallery revealed that you've indeed got the music bit covered, which is cool.
It's always harder to fully appreciate a game when you've had some hand in its making, so I look forward to playing this as a pure "consumer" once it's out

(I hope this comment doesn't register twice, DA is in a mood)

simply ace, good sir.
the more i get a peek at this hero re-envisioning, the more excited i get to play it.

it's quite rad to see you executing a lower-res pixel gameplay environment and character right alongside this amazing new higher-res portrait work. a perfect marriage that very few artists could rock out like you do

Looks great, I do agree it could be hard to read though. Variable heights might help...

I feel no problem in reading it, really...and it's going to DAMN good to play that game if the gameplay keeps up with the graphics

Looks nice! It's a bit hard to read though I think, or I'm just not used to it. Maybe if there was more space between the lines of text.. I don't know P:

Carnivius In reply to shatteredplastic [2007-08-25 17:07:04 +0000 UTC]

Can't really add much space between the lines due to the heights needing to stay in multiples of 8. It is a lot easier to read when it's running in fullscreen or larger window. The game ain't meant to be viewed at this tiny size.
