Description Did this back in January but forgot to upload it. It's a sprite of Lion-O from the original 80's incarnation of the ThunderCats, my fave cartoon of the 80's. This is meant to function as a sprite in a sort of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night style of game (and I've tested the sprite against backgrounds from that game for fun and it looks pretty cool.) Tried to get enough of the show's character design into the sprite size which wasn't easy but I'm quite happy with it. I do have an unfinished Panthro sprite I should get around to fixing up sometime too.

Lion-O without the Sword of Omens is 16 colours including transparency. The Sword would be a seperate sprite if on a real system that required sprites to have a maximum of 16 colours (as so many did back in the day). These sprites are doubled up to be a little easier to see on modern resolutions (though would still appear bigger than this on a proper 320x240 resolution or equivalent scale).

Lion-OOO! That brings back memories.
Awesome job on this, you really captured him perfectly, even the face color definition in such a tiny space.

Yeah. I'm glad you noticed the face colours.Β  Details like that are important to me when creating sprites.

Awesome. I would have loved to see a game based on Thundercats.

There have been a couple but none were particularly good.Β  The 80's game had an awesome chiptune though.Β  Strangely not any music that was from the show itself but still a greatΒ  tune by one of the best 8-bit musicians of the day.

Yeah, I heard that there was one particular game. But I heard that it sucked. The game designers really should have followed the example of Rastan. Because that was a good game, and I think they could have borrowed some influences from that game on how to make an ideal side-scrolling action game based on Thundercats.

Yeah there was that one game on the 8/16 bit home computers and a recent DS game based on the (nnnngh) reboot.Β
I had Rastan in mind when designing this sprite actually.

yeah. Also I had started a thundercats fan-game about 11 years ago but it was horrible. The main sprite looked ok but not very well designed for gaming as such.Β  I didn't get very far and I kinda went off the idea of fangames based on trademarked properties.Β  I remember emailing Larry Kenney the voice actor of Lion-O about it back then too cos I had the ambitious idea of asking him to do voice samples.

Wicked! Great pixel art and pose. Out of curiosity what was your thoughts on the Thundercats Reboot on the Nintendo DS?

Never played it as I don't buy nintendo consoles these days. Friend of mine had the game briefly and said I probably wouldn't have liked it as it was very mediocre and that I really, really didn't like the 2011 ThunderCats series at all (it's like they made a list of everything that I loved about the original show, and discarded it.. bleh).

Looks great. Shame this wasn't available when Death Battle was being made.
