The frozen tears fell from the female's eyes as she looked down over the still and hardening body. This couldn't be real..the one she had risked it all to care for had left her...no she had ended him. Both of his eyes had gone. Blinded by time itself. He was always in pain...so he asked her.. "Collector...it is time for you to collect my own eye...My time has come....nothing can change this...please.."
Eyesore stared down at the old wolf in disbelief..tho she replied the brute know she would do as he had requested... For hours she lie with him on the solid ice listening to the wheezing and hard breathes. It sounded painful but to her it was music. It let her know that he was still there, still breathing, still living. No....No not anymore..his chest had fallen still. Scared she jumped up and whined. She held her stance frozen in disbelief before she closed her eyes letting the tears fall down. Slowly she lowered her paw down on his skull. Her bright brown eyes stared into the ghostly white one. The Collector..it was her job now...
Character:
Name: Eyesore
Nickname: The Collector
Breed and Gender: Borzoi Female
Age: 4(in the picture..... around 1 in the story below)
Small back story for both the Borzoi and fallen Wolf
They forced me to go. They made me do it!! I...I didn't want to go...I'm not a hunter...no...I wasn't a hunter. I am a borzoi. Bred to be strong and loyal...to hunt alongside my beloved family and owner...well that is what they seemed to think. I am different but isn't that normal. To be set apart from the others?.. Maybe it's all just in my head...that day took a lot from me.
I was nearing my first year of training when it happened. My father and brothers where all excited ready for the hunt, ready to take down a wolf. That was the goal. So, we set out.
Paws sore and noses frozen, we sat and waited through the harsh winter hours. I was excited to turn and leave, our owner tired of waiting as well but the eerie sound had already found its way to us. A wolf was in the area. It wasn't but a flick of our owner’s wrist that set us bounding into the forest. All of us heated by the adrenaline pumping through our frozen veins, igniting the blood. I don't know why I ran with them that day...it was so unlike me...but I will never regret it.. I had left the others and followed a strange and earthy smell. It led me a few miles down the mountain to an eerie sight...it only matched his voice. Before me was the wolf...but not like I would ever have imagined. He was old and his face was plastered with exhaustion and fear.. His age only showing through the wrinkles below his eyes and the messy matted fur costing his boney body. It was his eyes...no eye that stood out he most...it was layered in a foggy white coat. Like that of the frozen lake back at our home...this wolf...he, he was blind in one eye...This is what we were hunting!? No, NO! Never would I call pain down upon this creature. How could someone be so cruel to another. I would not do this anymore. I watched the wolf only to whine and turn. My soft sound only telling the elder wolf that I would do nothing to harm him. With that done I turned to head back to the group. Surly they were wondering about me. Lifting my paws I crackled through the snow but as I snapped a stick the war began.
The howl pierced through the winter silence and soon the eardrums of the hunters. My brother had called to them and they all came. Bounding through the snow and onto the trail of the elder wolf. No. This couldn't happen. I had to stop it. My legs pulled quickly as my wide eyes took in the scene. I was in shock I hadn't seen my brother behind me when I had found him - the elder. I had to protect the elder. I sped up pacing myself beyond what I even knew I could go. It still wasn't enough to catch up. Why was I so small! Yes small I was but I had a brain. Turning i cut straight ahead, my nose kissing the earthy scent every now and then. I had I stay close.. I just didn't know how close I was till I saw him.. Once......twice..... 3 times the arrows sunk deep into his leathery flesh. Blood stained and melted the clean snow as he ran...his strong will to live still pushing him forward.. "No!!" My ear curling wail cracked the air as a watched the elder disappear under my family.. Their teeth ripping and snapping his flesh, their violent snarls drowning out his cries for help. Every now and then I could barely see his pain covered face beyond the red. And his eye...it stuck out the most. It looked clear at me...and now...now I knew what had to be done...
My jaws spread out wide as a dark and killer growl was summoned from my throat. I never knew the sound to be there. As I neared the pile with much force I leaped, my strong powerful jump sending me into the brawl. I latched down on the first thing that I came into contact with...the face of my father. It didn't faze me, either did his scream. I dug deeper as I forced my small body to overpower my strong father. It failed. But I managed to hold tight. As his body thrashed and moved with jerking motions, my ivory teeth came closer...closer. With a pop I felt the jelly texture in my jaws and pulled back shocked at the taste. What was this caught in my mouth? Unable to open my jaws I looked forward at my father’s thrashing body...his eye. It stood out the most. It was nothing but a gushing socket. Pouring his blood onto the snow as his throat choked on his own scream and wails of pain. I had taken the eye and the attention of my brothers. They all stared at me in horror and disbelief. I turned and snarled coldly at them as the eye dangled from my lips. Slowly they turned and walked away.. I am unsure of either their thoughts or place. For imminently I turned and moved to the elder lying on the ground. There, at his
Paws, I dropped the eye. "For you elder.." I said with such care in my voice.
He only looked up and stared into my left eye with his own. "Thank you, collector."
It was all he said and all he ever says to me as I bring him new eyes... For I am his Collector.
