carpenoctem410 β€” I don't hate it

Description Do you know what I mean? There exists a band/book/film which everybody loves who has seen/read/heard it. And then it's getting popular, there's a fan-base developing, it's not a secret tip anymore, it's not cool anymore to like it. So ALL OF A SUDDEN people begin to hate what they liked just days ago or hate it without knowing it just because everybody hates it. THIS IS SO SILLY! Why can't people just have their own true opinion?

I still don't understand why people would hate popular things. Like fidget spinners for example.

I find I tend to dislike popular things solely because they fail to live up to expectation, since it is so hyped up and everyone is like, "Oh you need to see it it's the greatest thing ever!". If I find it before the hype or before I hear the hype, I might like it or find it okay, but if I don't take the praise with a grain of salt I typically end up not liking the thing (Sorry if that doesn't make sense.) But yeah people assume I hate popular things because I have a tendency to dislike something if it's been hyped to the moon and back and I don't like it as much (though I can still appreciate it for what it is), but I like The Walking Dead so there, I don't automatically hate what's popular!

Ugh I can't word things to save my life XD

Entirely true. People shouldnt be jealous of anything or any celebrity, no matter how popular and admired they are. because it's 100% worthless to compare something you're interested to to something you like less. Compare is an ugly word. Take autistic people, for example. Most autistics are very shy, but autism is being very admired and loved by society lately. and those 2 year old children who are not embarrassed or even shy to be on stage in front of lots of people, GOOD FOR THEM. But every single person on earth should love him(her)self. No matter who you are, even though you're a nobody, self-esteem and loving yourself is deserving, period. Amen

You are so very correct! My friend was a huge fan of some book series called the Mortal Instruments, which I have honestly never heard of, and a movie is being made. He now hates the series because Hollywood is making it "mainstream".

I've actually watched the movie a few weeks ago, but haven't read the books. The movie wasn't that bad but it wasn't really good, either. I'd say it's ok, but I guess some fans will be furious

I agree with you there, it's really stupid. -__- Just like what those so-called 'hipsters' do just b/c it's 'mainstream'. I'd rather people stick to their fandom than go with the flow. Although, I admit that I personally don't like what's been the 'rage' at school these past few years (aka The Hunger Games, BotDF, tumblr, etc), but that's only b/c I've actually looked into the series and whatever and, well, I didn't find it as appealing as everyone else did.

you know, there will always be people who don't like you, that's ok. It's not ok if they start hating you for no reason though. And I don't know Vocaloid, but I enjoyed KingdomHearts, as a film student I also enjoy star wars of course, and I even read Narnia, and I like the movies and books, though I don't love them

Yes but I face her everyday during the time school is in though its summer right now. She hangs out with all my friends so I can't really avoid and she treats me like dirt :sigh: I don't get why since I try to be nothing but kind to her But I've always been ridiculed for they above which is one of the reasons I enjoy this site Its the one place I find people like me. Its good to meet people like you who understands things like this. I know people won't like me which is why I try to stay on here good side.

I also had people in my class that didn't like me for any reason at all. But with time, especially after everyone went through puberty successfully, things sorted themselves out on their own.

I know this might sound a little weird, but it makes me really happy when something I like has become popular and I don't understand why so few other people feel this way. It's kinda like a confirmation that I got good taste IMHO.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

carpenoctem410 In reply to Penikillin [2012-01-08 19:31:10 +0000 UTC]

Same here! Although I am sometimes guilty of saying "hey, I'm cool because I liked it before anyone knew it exists", but that's just a childish way of being proud XD I'm happy when something gets popular, too!
Only exception is if the thing that gets popular gets bad because of popularity. Especially musicians sometimes don't know how to deal with it.

Ish so true o.o

I love anime, and Naruto is a good example of this. A lot of people dislike it because it went so mainstream. *le sigh*

I like what I like and dislike what I dislike, regardless of what anyone else thinks I really don't understand people who's opinion changes because of what other people think...it just makes no sense to me.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

carpenoctem410 In reply to Starsong-Battousai [2011-08-22 11:56:16 +0000 UTC]

Exactly. Of course opinions might change, but this should always happen for a good reason, and not just because the opinion of others changed, too.

Dude, I know what that is like... However, some people do just switch opinion over night... I used to be huge into twilight... Until out teacher made us do our JOUNRALISM FINAL on it!... I freaking Hate the fans of twilight, granted ti was a good book, I enjoyed them, but now I hate them... :3 And I love alot of the popular stuff like all the marvel movies coming out~

But yeah, ppl need to get their own opinions!

I was huge into twilight, too. but other than you, I can't hate things I once loved. So I simply say that I know where the problems are with those books, and I know that they are really rediculous at the most parts, but I still enjoy reading them nontheless, they remind me of the time when I was 15

I guess they think that hating something because a lot of people like it makes them cool but there are a lot of people who also hate it so they’re basically separating themselves from one crowd and joining another. So either way, they’re not unique or cool. Besides, it’s a matter of personal opinion and everyone has different opinions so there’ really isn’t anything β€œspecial” about hating something XD

Many of these people are also hypocrites since they usually like stuff that is popular as well.

I agree with you 100%! Hating something just because it's popular is just as bad as hating something because it's unpopular. Either way, you're basing your opinion on how others see it, same thing! I guess for some people, liking something obscure and scorning what's popular makes them feel special or something.

Thanks for your support! I've never found a stamp like this before, it was deffinetly time to make one! There are only stamps like I refuse to love something just because it's popular, which is just as silly as hating it just because of the same thing! Think of Twilight, think of all the bands who raised and failed - they don't deserve this. When somebody hates it because it's really his or her opinion, I don't mind, but hey - when I was a big fan before, how can I hate it all of a sudden?

same here, I'm sure you've heard of Tokio Hotel? At the beginning everybody loved them, and now all those who were huge fans hate it, even comedians make fun of them, and there is only the fan- and the haters-base. I think I am the only one in between. I don't love them. But they do their thing, they are not bad like the haters say, and they bring German to the world. So why should I hate them?
