Description
Female Mongoose Lemur (Eulemur Mongoz) - Critically Endangered because of fire and poaching.(Eulemur mongoz) is a lemur living in Madagascar and on the islands of Comoros. It is best known for its strange seasonal behavior. Depending on the season, it is either diurnal or nocturnal. They live in trees in small groups and can become very aggressive when two groups meet. The reasons for the population of Mongoose Lemurs declining are the destruction of forests for logging and farms, the hunt for its meat and farmers setting traps to counter the raids of their crop. The forests in Madagascar are continuing to decline for the charcoal industry and the Mongoose Lemur is occasionaly trapped to be sold as a pet.

As an example of what it would look like-
Steps:
Open
Duplicate Layer
Set background color (select color)
Select Paint Bucket
Apply paint bucket to white bg areas only
Click on Background Layer
Ctrl New Layer (create new blank layer as a mask between Background and Background Copy)
Click on Background Copy
Ctrl G (Group with pervious)
Brushtool (45 px, soft round)
Click on Layer 1 (blank mask)
Brush white areas only (Opacity 30%)
Hope this helps.

Wow, such a gorgeous photo! I love the contrast of the lemur against the white background- Very nice!
But I just thought I'd point out that this isn't an Alaotran Gentle Lemur, as someone else suggested. She is actually a female Mongoose Lemur (Eulemur mongoz).
Bamboo (aka Gentle) lemurs are much smaller, aren't nearly as colorfully marked, their ears have very prominent tufts, and they have much shorter muzzles. They also move differently than bamboo lemurs and their behaviors are very different.
Sorry, I'm just a lemur-nerd and had to point that out!

It's alright! It happens to the best of us. (: I doubt if most other people would've even noticed or cared- I was only able to point it out because I study lemurs and have learned the ins and outs of each species' appearance.

Nice shot. I can't find it on the zoo's web site. The only one that is listed as endangered and being in their rare animal area is [link] and it has blue eyes.

I think they should post all their species on the website! Sure, most people aren't amazed by Mongoose Lemurs, but they should still put it up there. Did they have any other species of lemur not listed on the website?

carterr In reply to Zahzumafoo [2008-08-28 20:58:50 +0000 UTC]
yes they did - they had the blue eyed one there - which was definitely not my one

Zahzumafoo In reply to carterr [2008-08-28 22:35:24 +0000 UTC]
Well, yes. And if this was taken at the Philadelphia zoo (like the link that person posted) then they also have Ring-Tailed Lemurs, Black and White Ruffed Lemurs, and Coquerel's Sifakas, all of which are other species of Lemur. (:
I was just wondering if they had any species, aside from this Mongoose Lemur, that weren't on the website.
