The nation was on purposely split in half by western powers after not agreeing to conditional surrender of Japan. They ( western powers ) literally gave less military support to the South so they would request military presence in there nation.

You could also make a case for Tic-tac-toe. It's a game for children, perfect for 2 man-babies to play. Also, it's a game that, when played correctly by both sides, is unwinnable. Of course, the symbolism breaks down a bit when you consider that one incredibly stupid move on either player's part would result in a win for the other in the game whereas IRL we all would lose.

I suppose that practically any game for kids could have been used given the mentality of both. However it seems to me that chess is more appropriate as an analogy since it represents in a better way the enormous complexity of what is in their hands (their respective countries with their millions of inhabitants, etc) and how they foolishly believe that it's all about finding out who is stronger (which in itself is absurd given that one is in charge of a world military power and the other... is a suicidal idiot)
Now if we try to find a more accurate option, I think this would be the "Russian roulette".. the revolver fully loaded and pointing at our heads while they laugh and show off their endless ignorance...
