Not your best portrait, but it's amazing to see how much you've improved from when you painted this.I'm guessing it was just done on painter, it's unfortunate that it got so wrinkled, unless that was your intention. You actually softened him more here, I'm used to seeing him in a much more tense manner. I like his face, but the neck transition to the shirt cloth seems very abrupt, and there's not much depth there. The lighting is good though, and the tones of his face are dead on. I'd give more of a critique, but THERE'S NOT ENOUGH TIME! (hopes you watch 24, or it will just be awkward)

Thanks for the critique. It was done a while ago but I still quite like it. I don't know why everyone these days seems to assume paintings have been done in "Painter" I guess digital art is becoming the norm. However, this was done with the old traditional brush and oil paint as are all my paintings. The reason it's wrinkled (intentional) is because I used to paint on paper glued to board because I liked the texture. Nowadays I don't bother, it's just one extra time consumer. But I still have an affinity for textured surfaces. I do love 24... Bauer Power!

oh my gosh, I didn't even realize I said painter, I meant paper. Of course I realize that this was traditional, I love your use of oils, it reminds me of Phil Hale, I love him. It did give it a good texture, it just looks a little pulled in a few places.

That's nifty! I like how the details of his face are smoother and worked out, but they get rougher and blockier as you get to his hair and his shirt and the background. The jaw is a little too narrow, but that quirky cupid's bow mouth is spot on.
