Description A piece for the Boston Weekly Dig on vocational schools and how kids are being pressured into going to a traditional college instead of pursuing the time tested and honorable professions of the Work Trade ie. Mechanic, Electrician, Plumber etc. They wanted the look and feel to be like industrial revolution posters, propaganda style with punchy colors. Very proud and united.

This piece really makes sense on a personal level. I feel that I've learned more when I was in the work trade rather than in a academic setting. Granted you learn important theoretical stuff, but there are things out there that far exceeds what is the text-books and assignment briefs. I know that personally as the a fact. In that, I can't help feeling really enriched by this.

I like this. I go to a community college, myself, and the responses concerning my Associate's degree vary a lot. It's a technical program in New Media, so I'm learning a bunch of great stuff, but it sucks that a lot of people aren't considered a "professional" unless they have a Bachelor's. It's a little frustrating. The department head of my school said the industry I'm going into is all about your portfolio, but a lot of senior designers I've talked to stress the importance of a 4 year degree.

Wonderful! I love the look and feel of propaganda posters. I especial love the boldness of the red and the message conveyed in this piece. And it is a crying shame how here in America, the working class are STILL mistreated and looked done upon.

what I love is the two invisible people - you only see the big man and woman for a moment....and then you notice the others - works very well symbolically. The workers we refuse to see.

Hallelujah! The Working man is often overlooked and his profession is often viewed as being a demeaning one; I believe this isn't fair, because without these blue (sweat soaked) collared individuals modern society would collapse. Their profession is a more noble profession, their well deserved pay earned in sweat.

I really like this one, it has a very strong socialist realist quality, with a slightly modern twist. Great work with the contrast

And as Maieth said, yeah, similar problem here in the uk, though the idea of 'class' is a far more sensitive issue - though something that a poster like this would challenge nicely.

Hehe it's like that over here in Australia. The Blue Collar worker is now earning more than the White Collar. People just don't wanna do that kinda work anymore so those that do seem to have unlimited business and are growing hugely.

well done. Mission accomplished on this one, for sure.
There's an instant feeling of how proud those figures are of their seemingly menial jobs.
I've said before, i think your black/white/red pieces are you're strongest. you're realy good at using the three colours to make imagery striking and powerful and this one's no exception.

There's a similar problem in the UK at the moment, though its only just starting to get the attention it deserves. The government is pushing and pushing to get more kids into universities, and meanwhile the everyday proffesions are suffering. There just aren't enough skilled people out there, and with immigrationat its current rate, the trade is being quickly taken over by foreign workers who charge lower prices. Im not sure wether its a good thing or a bad thing, but ther's something unsettling about the whole way things are sliding at the moment

great piece

very nice. I love the way this is done. Im really liking your style of painting. I also love the whole red/gray thing, I love it when art is monochromatic with a splash of something bright to contrast.

I went to a vocational school myself, and I dont blame them for pushing us into traditional colleges. No one can blame a student for being a realist and going where the money is, and if that means degrees then so be it. Awesome painting.

This type of artwork really speaks to the masses. It worked then and it still works today. You surf the line of art / advertising extremely well. As a fan of typography, I'd enjoy viewing the version with the original title intact.

A fave for sure!

Please forgive me if this comment appears more than once. DA is not agreeable today.

Reminds very much of the propaganda posters of the communist era - but I guess you know that yourself...
The issue of young people getting pressured into college or university (by schools, parents and perhaps also the hope to get a well payed job without getting dirty) exists here as well. Usually the people here graduate, find no job for their qualification - and then learn a trade like you mentioned. Or they drive a cab or something...

That's awesome, I like the character and the expression in their faces, especially in the man holding the wrench. I think the text would have been better painted and the font is lacking for a painting this stylized (is that Impact? looks like it). I think the style of the text comes off a little cheap and basic but doesn't hurt the painting too much. Did you add that or did the Boston Weekly Dig add the text? Composition wise, the text works, it's just, the style of the text that seems to clash with the painting. Merely a nit-pick but I think it's a valid observation.

I totally agree. In fact in the original painting the title was "Work Trade Revolution" which I had painted with the welder's sparks splashing over it. However at the last minute they changed the title to "Working Class" and so I had to quickly throw in the font over the original painted work which just isn't the same. Good eye btw the font is Impact.

Thanks for all the comments and useful critiques man I really appreciate it!
