the green and gold are our national rugby (yes we play weird sports) teams' colours and we had an reminds me a lot of that.

ripped texture is very appropriate and nice

rugby's not weird. i'm jealous.
it'd make one pretty rugged and roughed up....

...pretty damaged.

i'd love it.

There's a Queensryche song called "Damaged," and the combination of the word "record" and the compelling image pulled it to mind. I've always really loved the 'ryche's lyrics, because they seem to GET IT.

Waiting for the feeling to subside,
Paranoid, I melt into myself.
They say I'm to reach inside and find
the broken part of my machinery.
Psychoanalyze the chapters
on the path to my darkest day.
Searching for the answers,
all I see is damage through the haze.
Picking up the pieces of my life
with no direction for re-assembly.
The one that lays beside me
is sharing scars of my broken yesterdays.
Will tomorrow find me hypnotized? Crying?
Mother Mary in control,
domineering stranglehold
sowing destructive seeds
for the scavengers to feed.
Driving the nail into my head,
memory flows like a river.
With the one that lays beside me
I'm healing scars from my childhood memories.
Tomorrow finally found me.
I'm hypnotized. I'm trying...
to understand the chapters
of the path from my darkest day.
Searching for the answers
but there's DAMAGE!

"This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD:
'Go down to the potter's house, and there I will give you My message.'
So I went down to the potter's house, and I saw him working at the wheel. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.
Then the word of the LORD came to me: 'O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does?' declares the LORD. 'Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel.'"

No seriously.... this is beyond a photograph.... this is a work of serious art.

And usually if I don't like something at all on deviant art.... it usually means I don't comment.... unless someone asks me directly "what do you think of this"...deviant art or real life..... it doesn't matter. This kid the other day showed me his drawing and asked me what I thought and I told him it sucked....straight up.... but that's because he didn't give it everything he had.... even though it wasn't that bad of a drawing... if you don't put your soul in something it's going to blow majorly........

wow, thank you -- and i completely agree.
there's so much more to a piece of work than anything technical or creative or innovative can bring. sure, those are wonderful things to have, but, if you don't bring your all to it and a deeper meaning and investment to it--it completely shows. and that's awesome of you to not be afraid to tell someone that. while i'm sure he wasn't stoked to hear it, afterward, i'm sure it made a far bigger difference to his future art and even just in him to know that someone was willing to be honest instead of feeding "oh that's great!" ... sigh -- too many thoughts for a real comment, my mind is flying all over; but i know we've been here before

....but as for your thoughts on my work here, i'm forever appreciative.

we all are...damaged that is..in some way or fashion, no one will possibly leave this earth unscarred, undamaged, most of us were broken at birth...its sad, but true...
but honestly, i've never had much time for perfection...anyhow..

carvingbackbone In reply to ifeyescouldtalk [2007-10-22 11:19:03 +0000 UTC]

you are very very honest and true in that statement; sad and unfortunate as it is, at least you had the decency to agree to it but then prove that's not important. and, that message is the strongest.
i shouldn't spend as much time concerned abotu irrepair and start accepting the damage will take me somewhere.

thank you babiecakes for your thoughts; you always challenge my mind and heart

what do you mean?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DaPuertorican In reply to carvingbackbone [2007-10-22 03:28:08 +0000 UTC]

hehehe thought you wouldn't understand.

It's a Puertorican saying I translated very roughly. I tried to think for an American and English one, but couldn't find one, so I translated that one. It's a saying that comes from "Baseball". A pitcher, well pitches the ball and the batter, well duh! bats the ball.

So in this case I'm the pitcher, saying lines, and hinting things, instead of you ignoring me, you just come back with a quick remark or a line to just get me to shut up or not give me a come back.

In Spanish it goes: "Me las estas bateando" (Are you batting me?) o "Me las estas pichando" (Are you pitching me?) It's basically is you are the pitcher trowing me the lines to punch me out.

I'm still trying to come up with the American counter part, but I can't think of it now!

carvingbackbone In reply to DaPuertorican [2007-10-23 22:34:30 +0000 UTC]

aaah, i gotcha -- kinda like -- 'are you just shooting me down?' or shutting me up....
i think some things just can't be totally translated to get the right punch they have in their original language, but i think i got ya now.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DaPuertorican In reply to carvingbackbone [2007-10-24 14:46:51 +0000 UTC]

Exactly, and not even in their original language, also culture. Some "sayings" are indigenous of their area only, and some other persons may not understand it either. Well that "saying" is known though out Puerto Rico, but I bet you, a Mexican, Cuban, or any other Spanish speaking country may not get it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

carvingbackbone In reply to DaPuertorican [2007-10-25 17:37:33 +0000 UTC]

pscht, we're at least the most "custom-less" country in existence.
we put to shame the meaning and worth in custom and tradition.
we officially bastardize all that here, but will get in your face and claim you've stepped on our toes.
grrr

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DaPuertorican In reply to carvingbackbone [2007-10-26 02:19:29 +0000 UTC]

Believe that the feeling is mutual, specially here in Puerto Rico, since we have TWO culture, the supposedly Hispanic one, and the American one.

Since we are a mixed culture, there are constantly in that struggle, getting in our own faces every time both step on each other toes.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

carvingbackbone In reply to DaPuertorican [2007-10-26 02:31:18 +0000 UTC]

hahaha, you ahve mixed culture?
we have every single culture existant on the whole planet grouped together in there own spots in the country and rivaling with each other, when each are just as uncultured as their neighbor and just wants something to argue abuot and claim they've been offended or prejudiced against.
damn "americans".

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DaPuertorican In reply to carvingbackbone [2007-10-26 23:44:14 +0000 UTC]

hahaha that's is so true! ... but remember, we here ARE Americans too, so the mentality is there, plus all of the illegal immigrants from the Dominican Republic...

So I guess we are screwed up the same

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

carvingbackbone In reply to DaPuertorican [2007-10-27 02:18:58 +0000 UTC]

ha, well, we have illegal immigrants from every country in the world who are probably more american now than i'll even know how to be. and i honestly ALWAYS forget PR is technically american almost because sadly, i hold it in a much higher regard than here. i almost do want to think of it as a part of this mess of a pathetic "country" and want them to be able to hold their own w/ no assoc. to here. hahhaha... there's just simply too much ignorance here.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DaPuertorican In reply to carvingbackbone [2007-10-28 02:22:36 +0000 UTC]

You don't know the half of it, it's a struggle for years and decades now. Half the country want to be the 51 State, the other half want things to stay they way they are.... we are a country that posses all the advantages of been a state of the USA, without losing our identity (like what happened to Hawaii), and only like 5-10% want independence.

There are number of referendums, and votes (that I frankly think are SHIT), cause they are use as popularity contests for the "politicians" that don't do shit, only steal money, and act like they are doing things, and taking credit from others... anyway they try gives us the choice to choose, always end up the same, and even so.... we don't get a say in this. YOU do, well, Congress do, if they wish they can make us State today.

I think the ignorance is all around the world!
