(2) punishment for bad behavior -- often by parents unto children.
(3) to possess the basic information; instructed in fundamentals.
(4) to have the basis for a theory, argument, or opinion; justification.
(5) to be supported by, strengthened, and steadied by the ground beneath you.

so many, many meanings.
though definitions constructed on my own; that is was this word means to me. what i feel and breathe when i hear it. the good, the bad, and the sideways.

aw, thank you so much; all you've said has made this mean so much more. that someone picked up on the subtleties and all the small details that i really wanted to more strongly depict that message and feeling of that word. it's so, gah, it's so beyond anything the english language could describe, and it means a lot to know that someone else was able to pick up on those things and not just see some random image without the depth i felt behind it.
and i love that quote from vanilla sky. it reminds me of the imoortant message in a similar line "there is beauty in the dark side. i'm not frightened. without it i could never feel the sun"
