Description
First attempt at a low-budget wooden shield for sparring.Made of 16mm MDF, with a canvas covering on the front and 1/2inch foam mat on the rear for padding. The straps are a cheap belt I butchered.
Canvas is kept on with a lot of wood glue, and stapled to the rear of the shield for extra durability.
Foam is glued on with wood glue, then screwed right into the wood of the shield.
Straps are just bolted on, for easy removal and replacement.
Very few tools needed. A jigsaw, drill and box cutter sufficed for pretty much everything.
Finished it off with a couple coats of timber paint. May put a crest or design on the front at some point.
Not a great shield, but it is a prototype. It only took a day or so to build, so I'm happy with how it turned out.
May do a How-To on making these at some point.
