Description I know this is not a good photo of a hawk but I could not resist posting it! I was walking @ Longwood Gardens and happened to look up. To my shock, I was within a few feet of a hawk!
If anyone knows the name of this hawk, I would appreciate it!

It looks like a redtail hawk? I really like this shot. It shows his intense face as he watches for prey,

You are correct. I found out for certain by doing some research and talking to someone who works @ Longwood Gardens where this photo was taken. I was informed that the redtail hawk is a common visitor. I wish I could have gotten closer!

Beautiful shot though! You did a wonderful job just the way it is. These raptors are pretty skittish so you have to be able to zoom in quite a bit. It's funny because bald eagles aren't nearly as afraid as a hawk. I've been able to get fairly close to them here in the wild

im pretty sure this is a peregrine falcon, its a great shot too, i had the same thing happen to me recently, i looked out the window and in the tree in my garden was one sitting there, the photo is in my gallery. i had to take the pic though a window on full zoom so its not brilliant but i could not let the moment pass..

I did more follow up and also asked around. I discovered it is a red tail hawk.

Really? How do I know the difference from a hawk and falcon? I Googled falcon and based on the images I see, you may be right. When I have the chance I will have to look up more information.
Thank you very much for your feedback!
