It's the cutest story about these little fellas, the only sweetwater turtles on Fraser Island (how did they get there in the first place, it's an ISLAND made of sand only and surrounded by saltwater!?) Anyway; we had driven for well over and hour looking for this lake where there are supposidly turtles. We arrive bright and early in the morning after quite a hazardous drive in very deep sand. All we see when we get there is this murky, huge lake with zero visability and one little stair way down to the water, the rest of the lake is unaccesible. I exclaim, how the **** are we gonna find any turtles here, we can only see murky water and seaweed, they could be anywhere! In that same second I heard a very strong "pop" from the water. I look down and this turtle head is starring back at me. And all of a sudden there is another pop, and another one and all of a sudden it's like pop, pop, pop everywhere from the water surface and all these little adorable pointy nosed turtles are staring at us. The whole lake is full of them, they are just not visible under all that murky water until they pop up for a breather and probably to look at those strange tourists again...
