Cataclysm-X — Broken

Description Yeah, she's finished . Sure it's not my best drawing ever. As you can see I didn't blend the picture, and that's because of several reasons:
  • Since this is a 'raw', tough and different drawing, I wanted to stay it different by looking it 'raw'. That's why I called this drawing Broken

  • It's a drawing based upon one of Luis Royo's artworks: so that means it isn't supposed to look realistic.

  • I wanted to try out some different techniques than what I usually do. You can expect a lot more try outs on sketches, pointilism, abstract, surrealism etc.

    You were never mine to love, but this all has made it easy for me...


    I needed:
    - about 10 - 15 hours to complete
    - HB and 2B mechanical pencils
    - 2H, 3H, 4H, 5H and 6H pencils
    - 7B, 8B and 9B pencils
    - patience, a lot...
    - your advice, thank you for that!
    - lots of music to listen to

    I promise you that I'll do a serious realistic portrait again next time I put a drawing up. I know a few of you were a little disappointed with this 'experiment'... sigh...

    I'd like to give you a nice long comment about this picture, but right now I'm too wrapped up in my own emotional trouble (let's be honest, it's baggage) to really give it my full attention. But I will say that the first thing that caught my eye here was her eyes. You did a really good job all around.

    as always it takes me ages to comment on your deviations, but as always i think its awsome
    when i used to draw more frequently, i often did that cross hatch shading instead of smoothed off. Though i do like 'smoothed' artwork, im a big fan of what youve done here
    and can't wait to see the next one!

    About my next drawing... I came to the conclusion that the picture was impossible to do, so I got another pic, of the same person though .

    Haha yes that's so true! It was actually my intention to do so hahahaha. Oh well..

    The 5 (yet 4) upcoming male drawings are more a sketch instead of a realistic piece (as far as I can make it realistic lol) though after those 5 sketches I might do a realistic drawing again of a male.
    Are you familiar with Ewan McGregor?

    Haha yeah well, about Guy Pearce, I was trying to find good pictures of him but still haven't so it depends on if I'll ever be able to find a good picture of him. Maybe you have a nice pic of him?

    Well for one, I'm not at all disappointed. I find it is very important to experiment with other techniques because it'll help you improve and find out what you like the most. And furthermore, you've done a good job with this drawing so why not keep experimenting?
    I've said it before, but just wanted to point out once more that the shading is great! In this drawing, I like the roughness of the shading and that you haven't used any blending because it makes the white parts stand out more clearly. But I feel that the hair looks a bit unfinished; I don't think that you need to make so many lines in the hair, instead you could just make some areas dark without showing any lines. I also think that the lips would look better without the outline... But apart from that, I really like her pale eyes and the dark shading around them. Her expression is beautiful too; I like the half-opened mouth.
