Description This drawing almost made me cry.

A huge thank you to ~deedeedee123 for allowing me to draw the same picture of Sora as she did. Please send her some love, too .

The reference picture comes from the opening scene of Kingdom Hearts II. I wanted to add a little more drama to this scene, so I did. I hope you like it this way.

Spend about 15 - 20 hours on this drawing.
Used:
  • kneadable eraser
  • tissues and tortillions for blending
  • 4H, 2H, HB, 2B, 3B mechanical pencils
  • 2H, 4B normal pencils
  • reference picture

  • wonk uoy naht noitceffa erom deen I
In you and I there's a new land.
    Angels in flight.
wonk uoy naht noitceffa erom deen I
    My sanctuary.
    My sanctuary Yeah.
Where fears and lies melt away.
    Music inside.
wonk uoy naht noitceffa erom deen I
    What's left of me.
    What's left of me now...

    (Lyrics: Utada Hikaru)

Edit: Changed title so people know this is a Kingdom Hearts drawing!

Well, I can't quite recall exactly who it was, but I remember reading the words of a writer who was once asked how he wrote a story. His reply was along the lines of, "I didn't write the story. The story used me as its instrument to enter this world."

As Zen as that sounds, I can honestly say that there are times when a poem or story will just spill out of me. I'll just be sitting, philosophizing about something, and alluva' sudden I'll get this sporadic urge to just start writing. The most recent instance of this would be with this: [link] piece.

But it doesn't always go like that, especially with longer works like long stories or books. What motivates me to write is practically everything around me. When I write poetry, it's usually about feelings or philosophical thoughts. I sometimes do smarmy political or sociological rants, since I'm not very particular to the culture in which I live.

Prose could be anything from a story in my mind to a theological dissertation; depends on what it is. More than anything, I'm an expressive person at heart, and I strive to use my artistic resources (whether musical, literary, traditional or otherwise) to tell my stories to the world. This would explain why my former occupation of choice was video game design (a media I feel mixes all the above-listed art forms.)

I still freelance from time-to-time, but, like other things, the inspiration has to be there.

As far as more serious things go, I'll usually meticulously study things before I make a statement. It is my utmost desire to always stand for what is true and what is right, and I think that in many cases the two go hand-in-hand.

I will usually only make a long-winded statement about such serious things in response to discussions upon or attacks by people who disagree with what I hold to be correct (unfortunately, the latter occurs much too often, I feel.)

    Enough of that, though.

    Tips.

If people don't care about your characters, you've missed something very important. Make sure you spend the time to not only think in your own mind of who you want your characters to be, but make sure to take the time out to let your audience get to know the people too.

As an example, think of FF7. You just spent 60 hours (if you're like me and like to waste time getting meteorain before you leave Midgar and collecting all the enemy skills) of your life getting into the story. Yes, yes, there's the strategy of the battles, the multitude of mini games. But what it's all really about is the intricate tale that has been weaved over the course of those 60 hours. The reason why that final confrontation between Cloud and Sephiroth is more than just a "last boss battle." The murder of Aeris, the burning of Nibelheim, the summoning of Meteor and the release of the Weapons. All of it comes together to create not something as trivial as a "boss fight," but, really, a climax.

Think about why Square-Enix made FF7 AC 10 years after the game came out and nerds drooled over it (btw, to be honest, I wasn't too impressed with AC) and still gave a crap about it. 10 years after the fact! It's probably the same reason why you still take the time to draw those characters, or why I'll go back every once and a while and give the game a play-through--despite the fact that it's technically outdated, I've been playing it since I was in 7th grade, and I've spent enough time stealing stealing Hardedges from SOLDIER 3rd Classes to get several decent pedicures (JUST SAYING.) It's because it's not as much a game as it is an experience.

The simple truth is that when it comes to effective story telling, no one can be taught how to do it. It can only be learned.

Think about, specifically, why something like FF7 is more than just a video game.

I think that's the best (and certainly not the shortest) way I could put it.

Wow thank you so much for the long, and definitely inspiring comment! And not to forget the very clear tip you gave me by explaining the whole FFVII thing. Indeed, since you said so, it's amazing people still care about FF7 so much after 10 years. 10 Years... How many games have been created in those 10 years and none of them are as successfull as FF7. Amazing how the last battle between Cloud and Sephitorth became so importrant (when it was 'just' an (in my opinion) easy battle and done in just a few minutes).

It's pretty understandable you didn't like FF:AC that much. The storyline wasn't that excited anymore and quite weak even (whoa am I saying that, as a die-hard fan?). Still people just loved to see the characters. I clearly remember how my bro looked at me when I told him there was a FF7 movie available in stores. And the look on his face when he actually saw his favourite characters appearing in the movie.

So yeah, it might sound easy to create a popular character by writing down an amazing storyline, but it really isn't. I envy your talent of writing down stories just like that. I guess I still need to find my way of creating stories and/or characters which are interesting enough. Thanks for the great tip.

Thank you so much for the compliment .

Aww so you don't really feel like drawing anymore huh? Well writing is an excellent way of creating art as well . I'm trying to write short stories as well, but I'm not really that good at coming up with storylines .

    Dankjewel

De ketting was vrij lastig te doen omdat ik eerst niet precies wist wat het was dus ik probeerde na te tekenen wat ik zag! Blijkbaar goed genoeg gelukt haha.

    Thank you so much .

Yeah this drawing really made me feel sad too. Sora was staring at me, crying... If I see someone dear crying, I almost have to cry as well. So sometimes I had to stop drawing this before the drawing would get wet .

Whoa thank you so much (for the first comment even )

You know, I never had so much trouble shading a drawing as I had with this one. IΒ΄m glad you like it so much . And IΒ΄m glad you like the tear too! ItΒ΄s hard to draw tears from imagination .
