Description Updated watermark 02-08-09.

It's my first true flower macro. Well, the first true "decent" one, anyway. Trying to kill time before meeting with someone, I stopped at a friend's house (while she wasn't home, no less) and shot her flowers. This is her crocus.

Taken late afternoon, using Pentax K110D and Pentax 18-55 lens with Quantaray 52mm +10 macro filter and Quantaray 52mm polarizing filter.

Post Work:
-slight crop to square
-border

I love that sort of photography - it's really fun to get down there and see them in such a different way.

polarizing filters can give great results!
good luck practicing

I'm still learning how to use the circular polarizer - it is a bit tricky for me.

I only use an UV-filter

is it very hard to use?

catacosmosis-xo In reply to Jna1985 [2008-04-09 11:46:56 +0000 UTC]

Well, I don't know if I would say "hard," but I just don't get it. I know that with the circular one you can turn it to get different effects, theoretically, but I haven't ever noticed a difference in mine when I turn it. The shots look the same to me. So I'm not sure if I'm missing something.

Uhm.. when you shoot through glass you should a difference..
The reflection will be gone, if turned.

Well theoretically

catacosmosis-xo In reply to Jna1985 [2008-04-10 13:34:21 +0000 UTC]

Aha!! That explains why these shots didn't change - no glass.

Jna1985 In reply to catacosmosis-xo [2008-04-11 10:03:19 +0000 UTC]

I guess, try shooting through glass,
or maybe the sky will change too when you turn it

nice! I hear if you use a one of those sunshades that are like tin foil you can add some ambient light to do those kinda macros perfectly

Nice capture!

Oh cool tip!!!! Sounds like something obvious - why didn't I think of it? Oh, I guess because I don't think about those things too often. I just wait for them to jump out at me.

JUMP JUMP

heehe. I sometimes use a mirror when im shooting ebay shots just so I can put the light directly on something I want to stand out or not have shadowing.

I don't think it is! Your shot has much better lighting than mine, I think. I keep thinking mine is too dark, not enough light on that center yellowish part... But, that's what I see. LOL I like your shot very much! In fact, just d it!
