Hazelfire felt the relief of all her clanmates. She made sure to dig her claws into the gorge as she started to pad over to a trembling Twitchkit. But her relief was short-lived. "Kindlestar? KINDLESTAR!" Hazelfire heard Twopelt call desperately. She whiped her head around to the water and, in horror, realized Kindlestar was nowhere to be seen! Ignoring the slickness of the rocks Hazelfire bounded down to the edge of the gorge and stepped with her front paws onto one of the paw-holds on the cliff-face. Kindlestar still hadn't made an appearance. Hazelfire was only aware of her immediate surroundings. Wind buffeting her fur, rain pounding over her already-soaked body. Twopelt quarreling with Dawncloud. She kept thinking she would somehow see Kindlestars head emerge from the deadly water, but she didn't, and slowly Hazerfires hopes started to vanish as she watched her clanmates give up, and head to the Moonclan border. On numb, shaky paws, she followed, with only her hope that they would find their young leader on the rescue patrol Twopelt was sure to send out.
