Description
Just something I've been working on, on and off between commissions, work, life, etc. One of those "Take a break and work on this" types of artwork if you will, that was mostly done for the purpose of practicing different coloring/shading techniquesThis was NOT drawn by me, and the lineart was created by the lovely pandalecko . You can find the base here
I just colored and shaded the piece (and added the whiskers)
I happened to come upon this one day, and thought that the overall expression and physical traits would work well for portraying my alter-ego

I think it's nice to see the details in a clear pose such as this.

I really love the shading on this, gives a look of a very bright light source actually.
Are these digital lined images good for shading practice? I always seem to do the shadows in pencil before colouring but I can imagine having more control with something like this

Much obliged
I know! What I really like about it is that it seems to sit on the border between realistic and cartoony-themed artwork. A sort of "cartoony realism", or something.
I love shading I just love watching that transformation from "Blahh, flat art." to "Oooo, 3D realistic effect!"

Going into this, I actually had very little ideas of what I wanted the shading to look like. I know I wanted it to be different than how I usually shade my artwork, but also something that potrays "my" style. But I can say that I had an absolute blast with this, and it was a great learning experience!
Thank you so much for the compliment, too!
