Another contest entry for 's Species of the Week contest.I probably won't be doing these every week, but they're fun
This week's was the anglerfish, a member of a unique group of fishes known by their dangling 'lure' they use to attract prey.
There's plenty of other interesting things about anglerfish though, like the relationship between the male and female anglerfish. Basically, the male anglerfish becomes part of the females body. It's bizarre and cool at the same time. Nature is full of neat stuff.
So anyway, while making this character I sort of made up a background for her...
Glow the Angler is a teenage girl trying to make it in her new highschool after her family moved to Station Square. All the popular girls made fun of her for not being 'pretty'.
Everything changed, however, when she met the football team's waterboy, Flash. He loved her just the way she was. The two became inseparable- he now spends all his time in her purse as he's significantly smaller than she is.
When they graduate from school, Flash plans to make their union permanent... by proposing, that is.

Hehe Facy she is :9 I really love this character sort of uniqueness that its has, not everyone does a anglerfish as OC I suppose...I'm not sure oh well

That is just so cool! This is a very interesting design that fits perfectly into the series.

I agree, and I think that guy in her purse is her husband. Male anglers are much smaller than their female counterparts.

I just saw the critique request but I don't have a premium membership. There is only one thing I would want stronger for this illustration and its Glow's right hand. Its her middle finger really, everything else could stay where its at as long as that finger was moved up from behind the ring finger.
Just a thought because I'm looking at her hands and thinking about what she is doing standing there, it could have been very cool if she had her hands clasped together.

This is my absolute favorite of every unofficial Sonic character I've seen. This is super super cool! Once again you are nailing the Sonic visual design with cool body shape and unique but simple head design. And I love that you put the effort of crafting a story for these characters. My favorite detail is Flash.

Something about Sonic character designs that tends to annoy me is there tend to be a lot of 'samey' designs- the majority have the same round head + muzzle combination with the same basic body form, which ignores that there are some with designs off the beaten path, like the design of Vector, Storm, Big, etc. I wanted to play with that here, and I'm glad you think it worked out.
'Flash' is actually based on the strange biology of angler fish, (as illustrated here: [link] ), except for more... family friendly, I guess you can say.

*Not trying to sound arrogant, it's just happened before. On a forum. It got to the point where people would start contests just so that I'd submit art to them and then they'd have me win. No one had any fun and I felt really put off by it in the end.

I always thought Anglar fish were pretty freaky looking. You did a great job anthropomorphicizing 'em here though.
It's kinda cute (and weird) how she carries her BF in her purse, (and making him tiny like the IRL males are) but it's kinda a nice reference to the weird real life Anglar fish "relationships."
