The best hunting team in District 12.It's not meant to be Katniss/Gale, this is merely a friendship piece however I'm not against the pairing either.
Here's briefly what I got from reading the books:
Personally I think the Katniss and Gale relationship (be it platonic or otherwise) is actually more interesting than the Peeta and Katniss one. Gale is awesome and Katniss is just badass in every way so the pair together are just an interesting combo.
Don't get me wrong Peeta is a sweet and lovely character whom I also love but for different reasons. To me it's clear that throughout the books Katniss does fall in love with him, although she remains oblivious to her own feelings. I think that she would like to be in love with Gale, because things would be easier and simpler if she were.
Unfortunately the heart wants what it wants.
The only thing that was I was unsure about was who she would pick, considering it was not based on who she loves, but on what life would throw at her. I wasn't expecting a 'happy' ending to the books and if you think about it, it wasn't really, because in the end she doesn't make a choice. It is made for her.
Then again I don't think that the books are about her relationships. In a nutshell the stories are about Katniss's struggle with life under the Dictatorship of the Capitol which, let's face it, is a much more substantial plot than a teenage girl's love life (... twilight).
Anyway they have an brilliant friendship, I like to ignore the whole epilogue and believe they managed to get past the bump in the proverbial road.

I love this, but I think your description really makes the picture. I'm not really of either team (Team Peeta or Team Gale, that is) but if I had to choose, I think I'd go with Gale just because the development of their relationship seemed more natural to me. Because you're right, in the end, the decision was kind of made for her (even if yes, she did pretty much fall for Peeta in the end. But to me it's more because they were pushed together? Or something?)
ANYWAY lovely lovely work on this. Especially like their boots (is that a weird thing to like?) You really captured the moment between them, here.

I really like this! I think it captures the moment perfectly, two friends that depend on each other and enjoy each other's comapany. I really love how you drew Gale, too.
And as far as the ships go, I get what you're saying but for me, the fact that Gale and Katniss are so much alike is what makes me averse to them as a couple. It's like Katniss says in Mockingjay, she's got fire of her own, a relationship with Gale, I think, would ultimately damage both of them. Peeta brings balance to her life. And as much peace as she could possibly achieve. But I still like to think that eventually, somehow, Gale and Katniss met again and managed to see each other as they once did: a true friend.

Oh, I see your point, but I don't agree with it. Knowing Katniss, I think nothing would stop her if she really wanted to be back with Gale (go and live in District 2? No probs!). Problem is⦠it all went really downhill in the end and she needed less fire and more tenderness. Specially after Prim.
Therefore, she chose the baker. (And put an end to my infinite screams of "HE LOVES YOU MORE THAN LIFE, YOU ARROWHEAD!")
I liked the epilogue: it did finish the knots in the plot with a merry (and tangible) bow. It was happy, but bittersweet⦠like life is.
But, you know what they say: when two people draw different conclusions from the same source, it's a good sign that the source is deep and plentiful βΒ maybe on that we can agree.
And your Gale look adorable! Katniss looks badass,Β just as she should. Great work!

I have only recently read the books so I do think I've been influenced by the actors they have chosen for the films. However, I do believe that Jennifer Lawrence is a reasonably good choice, I also think maybe Emily Browning would have been alright too...

That is exactly how I figured it. It was never a real love triangle, because she loved Peeta the entire time, she was just confused and thought that it made more sense to love Gale, having known him so long and been his partner. Thank you for articulating that so well!

And yes, the love aspect is not the point of the book. As Josh Hutcherson said himself, the relationships are really only there to make you care about what happens to the characters, not as the central plot.

I really liked Gale and Katniss as friends, and got seriously angry when Gale was totally out of character in Mockingjay. But then again, war does crazy things to people, so I can't really blame him, or the author.
