copic markers arent very good. they smear if you try to put the glaze on them and the colors come out MUCH darker than intended.

You usually have to use thick paper so they might run or something.. Dunno.

Thanks for the input though. C:

Mine ended up with small bubbles in it? And stuck to the paper bag, pulling up some marker... any thoughts?

CatharsisJB In reply to LauraGarabedian [2010-02-17 18:35:26 +0000 UTC]

Possibly too hot, too cold, or there's a mix of temps in your oven going on? Make some no-effort test pieces and see if you can find a good temp to bake at that is possibly not at the manufacturer's specifications.

how big do you recommend making the design if I want a keychain size? I'm afraid when it shrinks it'll be too small! O:

CatharsisJB In reply to AddictedToBunnies [2010-01-25 02:42:19 +0000 UTC]

I don't have a set size guide, you're just gonna hafta play with it until you get the size you want I'm afraid.

I really appreciate the tutorial. But what if instead of using color pencils I were to use permanent markers for the whole thing? How would that turn out?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CatharsisJB In reply to seirarelur666 [2009-11-24 19:28:16 +0000 UTC]

Should work fine depending on how well the colors hold.

Thanks a tonne though!

Honestly, sometimes it depends on how your oven cooks. It's best to have a test sheet on-hand and mess with it a bit first

Do you use both modgepodge and then sculpty glaze on top of that or do you just use one of the two products?

Great tutorial!

I have one question though...
do the parts coloured by your sharpie bleed at all when you put the glaze on? I've found that regular markers do...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CatharsisJB In reply to oaketree [2009-03-05 15:39:27 +0000 UTC]

Nope, that's why I use sharpies

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

oaketree In reply to CatharsisJB [2009-03-05 15:59:50 +0000 UTC]

Awesome, I'll have to try that next time.

I bought a kit a while back and I only have a little piece left.
I want to try the inkjet stuff, but it's like $17 for a pack at Micheal's! They do sell the regular stuff too though, so maybe I'll have to get some...

How do keep the coloured pencil from smearing when you brush on the gloss?

The package always told me to start the design and draw it on the rough side, too.. :0

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CatharsisJB In reply to liltrix7 [2009-01-10 05:30:01 +0000 UTC]

Colored pencils on rough side, markers bleed too much if you're doing fine lines on the rough.

liltrix7 In reply to CatharsisJB [2009-01-10 19:47:09 +0000 UTC]

Oh, hmm...I've just used inking pens and it was usually fine. Yeah I haven't really used markers I guess.

I have a question, I use the printable sheets for my vector work. I print em, cut them out nice and such, and when I go to bake them they awrp. The strait edges get warped and it looks aweful. Is there something I can to to make it keep shape well?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CatharsisJB In reply to TastyPeachStudios [2008-12-09 21:59:17 +0000 UTC]

I really don't know - I know some cheaper brands of shrinking paper have a tendency to warp, or it might happen if your oven isn't heated up properly first, or if what you are setting them on isn't smooth...

Yueh16 In reply to ??? [2008-12-05 01:01:23 +0000 UTC]

That's really helpful. A few annoying questions:
-Does the picture "flips" ? ( like facing the other direction)
-Can you see the same image from both sides?
- What's the difference between the smooth side and the rough side?(before and after putting it in the oven)
-Does it matter which side you color on?
