Who doesn't try to make a planet now and again?PSE 2.0
Idea for approach to making this planet from tutorial at: [link] (if you know the author name, let me know and I'll post it!) The underylying texture was provided by this site. However, the rest was my own, since PSE 2.0 didn't have all of the features mentioned, so a bit of it was jury-rigged as I went along.
I'm really proud of the stars in the background --> they are a lot of fun to make!

hmmm... What I want to know about is what's on the planet. Does it have a stargate? Inhabitants? Conditions? I could probably write a story about it if I knew that stuff...

It's a very good start, but I'll try to provide you with a few pointers:
The atmosphere colour doesn't quite match the planet or the light source; it looks like the stock glow colour on Photoshop, to be quite honest. Try different variations of colours when you apply the glow.
As for the atmosphere itself, it doesn't look quite fully erased in the shaded portion of the planet; I believe the tutorial you used went over that part, it's a fairly simple fix.
Other than that, it looks quite good, although a bit blurry; try saving the file as a higher resolution file, that might help sharpen up the image a bit.

If you feel up to the challenge, the best planetary tutorial I have ever used is `alyn 's. It's very in-depth and advanced though, so if you don't quite feel up to it, :devdinictys: also has a great, and fairly short tutorial.
