Description I remember the sound of the sea,
when I ran from home in
tears because the world came
crashing down on me there...
I stood on the epicenter,
watching the waves of hate and anger
expand from their mouths...

                     You don't hear it in the moment;
                     only after the fact.

So, I took the rusted, blue bike
and let the wind wipe away the streaks on my face.

Honking cars did not frighten me as I
darted in and out of traffic -
their fast blurs painted metallic rainbows,
rainbows that turned to water colors in my eyes...
soon, they would dry and flake away as
wet sand does once baked off of tanned skin...

I could feel that sand between my toes,
though I don't remember the time between
rushing cars and the lazy waves
lapping at my feet...

                     You don't see your path in the moment;
                     only after the fact.

I remember the sound of the sea, though...

                                 I remember the sound of the sea...
