Description As I perch on the cold
metal bench, I watch
them walking past me -
their heads cast downwards,
watching the ground to
keep it from lifting its bricks
to trip them;
Some walk with purpose -
quick, choppy movements,
legs trying to keep up the pace
as noses tilt skyward and
faces are on lock-down.

But I do not notice them -
my eyes search for another
as the sun peaks out from
behind muted clouds that
hint at rain, but don't deliver.

The air is turning thick -
not quite liquid, but not wholly air...
it's a pleasant change from
the dry cold that slows the heart,
shrouds the lungs -- perhaps
it's the breath of nature
as it comes back to life,
filling my lungs with their strength?

One day, I will find the
face I search for...
but not today -- I'm certain,
not today...

The cynical tone is appealing to me. I never thought of people's faces being on lockdown, but that is an accurate description I think. It's hard to express emotion to strangers you pass, so I guess we tend to not convey anything other than intent to reach a destination.

Nice piece!

Thank you! I agree, the most I ever do is smile and say hi to anyone walking past me...and that's only if we make eye contact. I'm glad you liked the poem!

I don't mean to encourage you to not pay attention in class, but very nicely written!

Lol, well class hadn't started yet, so I think I'm good (though I have actually written poems in class when I should've been doing work )! And thank you!!! I'm glad you liked it!

Haha, your secret is safe with me! I daydream all the time..so don't tell anyone. I've even fallen asleep in class before, so I'm sure that writing poems can't be all that bad!

And you're welcome!

Yay! And I daydream in class too. Ocassionally I'll fall asleep, but that's rare. I think every student falls asleep at some point or another in a class.

Haha, I'm still waiting for the day a Prof might fall asleep in class. Highly unlikely, but it would make my day!

That would be awesome! Then when the prof wakes up, everyone's gone!

Ahaha, yes! That would be awesome! Heh..some days I hope that my Professors get the flu and won't be able to hold class..And that's worked a couple times!

*sighs in agreement* I'll have to hope for snowstorms that last into the summer...

Definitely! Unfortunately, that's pretty much an impossible hope for me...it's too warm here in the summer.

Lol, we could still get LOTS more snow. And considering all the lakes here are still very much frozen I wouldn't be surprised. It's happened before that we've had snow until May!

But rain is nice..but I guess a lot of it wouldn't be... Buy a bright red raincoat, awesome rubber boots and a cool umbrella! You'll be all set!

It's ok when you don't have to be out in it....that's when I really hate rain. I like to listen to it, but when you want to get out of the house, it kinda sucks...everything's all soggy.
