Description
Let me remember the dayswhen the innocent mind of youth
prohibited thoughts of heartbreak,
and allow me to drift back
to sand castles...
Sand castles, with their
stoic armaments of seashells
flanking the gritty walls
and their empty moats of magic
masking the secret entrance...
Sand castles, so sturdy
yet fragile when water
comes too close,
eroding its fortified state
'till nothing but a lumpy clod
of sand and shells remains...
Sand castles, built when
the sun strides across the sky
in his chariot of blue gems
and the waves play
tug-of-war with the wind...
Sand castles, sculpted by
a child's hands full of hope
and the joy of creation,
when dreams still come true
and all our hard work
comes to fruition...
Because, now, all I see are
gray waves and cloudy skies
as I bury my castles in the sand...

This is truly wonderful. Perfect imagery. So much so that it made me warm in this winter for a little while ! I miss these days and you reinterpret them quite well.

I like the contrast in tone and mood between the body of the poem - light, bright, with allusions to mythology - and the beginning and end, which are sad and wistful. Your imagery is very successful in communicating the emotions and moods of the poem and linking the "now" to the "when I was a child." Well done!

I love the repeated use of "sand castles" for each stanza - really drives home the images and feeling of lost innocence.

I like sandcastles. I don't think enough people write about them.
Good job.

Sandcastles are so much fun!
Someone once wrote me a poem about them, I'd forgotten about it until I saw yours!

Yeah, 'cause then you're trying to come up with what it reminds you of and it's on the tip of your tongue, but you still can't remember it. Happens to me all the time!

Haha, that too!
I was thinking more along the lines of. "Oh, I haven't heard this song in such a long time...I like it...why haven't I listened to it more?...Oh...He sent that too me..."
That type of thing!
Crazy what we associate with memories!

Ohhhhhh, I see....yeah, that can be unpleasant too. Though, I can't say any song has brought about that exact reaction before...
Indeed it is! Memories and the things that spark them are quite interesting! I'm actually learning all about that in my psychology class right now.
