Description
Down in the valley,that's where they grow...
Dreams,
dreams of past lives
flit to and fro...
Down in the valley below...
Sorrow sews stale seeds
into the settling mud;
tears fill the pores of the gray soil,
urging flowers of faith to grow...
Roses sprout up:
black velvet petals
and silver string stems;
a tribute to the dead
sleeping below their roots...
Down in the valley,
that's where they grow...
Thorns,
thorns of past wounds
creep to and fro...
Down in the valley below...

Well, in Christianity, when you go through tribulation / or hard times you are in the valley ("the valley of the shadow of death") but in the valley is where you grow - like the flowers you mentioned in your poem. Flowers don't easily grow on a high mountain - it grows in the valley on plains.
The poem inspired me to write something about how you grow in hard times, that in stead of seeing the darkness you see the beautiful flowers that will grow in these curcimstances
