Description
VAINGLORYYou sit high on your throne
of self-righteous dignity,
Forbidding others to
Climb those steep steps
To ease you down
Onto your feet
The muscles atrophy
And the skin
Slides over your bones
To hang and tremble
As you move,
Yet no one may
Come to save your body
As it slowly dries and shrivels
You shall feel,
Feel Death crawling
Upon your skin,
Inching its way
To your soul
As you sit on your throne,
Dying
Still,
No good soul
May rescue you from
Your definite demise,
For your pride would
Be wounded so...
VANITY
Time stands still
In the ageless mirror
Reflecting one image
For all eternity
Gazing into a reflection
Unable to tear the eyes away,
Lest disturb the calm
Serene waters of time,
And wrinkle like
Ripples across a lake
A modern Cassiopeia
Framed in the looking glass,
Forever young and beautiful
Lies down by the water
To gaze on an
Ageless reflection
The tides shall turn
And the still waters
Shall quake with rage,
Shall swallow the mirror,
And become nothing in the
Endless spiral of time

... Hm. As to Vanity, I think you were looking for the character of Narcissus rather than Cassiopieia. But the timeless feel of the poem is well-achieved.
As to Vainglory - wow! I think this poem may be one of the best you've submitted. At first, I thought the throne metaphor might be close to cliche, but it actually worked very nicely and did not sound like something that has been overdone. The imagery is excellent and surprisingly fresh. Couple typos though: "its' " should be simply "its" without the apostrophe (the possesive does not need an apostrophe; only the contraction does); and you added an extra f in definite.

Have you ever seen "Clash of the Titans"? I have the movie and near the end it does say something about Cassiopieia being vain.....I only used her instead of Narcissus because I was trying to convey that the person was a woman, not a man.

Ok. That makes sense then. I haven't seen Clash of the Titans, but I should, it's been recommended to me numerous times before. Just as a possibility, you could change the name from Narcissus to Narcissa, but that might be kind of silly.
