I don't know if you've ever read Cupcakes or Silent Ponyville, but there's a lot of inner demos that are possible. She could become worse than most horror movies, but still retain the outward appearance of the little girl's cartoon.

First off, I meant to say "Demons", not "demos", but that's beside the main point. The point is that Pinkie Pie actually has a lot of room for grimdark. Like, waaay more than the rest of the six. Except for maybe Fluttershy. Back to Pinkie, it's her excessive happiness (conjoined with her Party of One episode) that allows for either a stunning mask, hiding whatever horrors and chronic and sustained cruelty lies behind it, or just pure and simple insanity, as was the case with Cupcakes. Personally I'm fond of the Mask concept, where all her friends know about her is simply a halfhearted facade designed to shield herself and her friends from whoever (or whatever) she truly is. Harder to work with, considering how explicit her personality has been displayed by the cartoon, but when it's pulled off, it's great.

Sure, they all are. But Pinkie Pie beats all of them, with the possible exception of Fluttershy. It's always the quiet ones...
Besides, Twilight's insanity really isn't hidden by anything. It' s just her own personality magnified. With Pinkie there's so much more allure, what with her dark side hidden to all (Rainbow Dash doesn't necessarily count; she believes it to be a random fluke of Pinkie's as do the rest of the witnesses).
