Description I have been wanting to bead loom a Barbie dress for a while.
This vintage Barbie is wearing a dress after my own design. I bead loomed it in one piece, sewed up the side, added rows of the beads to drape over the shoulders and as accent for the back and daggers at the bottom.
Barbie is wearing modern shoes to which I added bead straps. Her headband is beaded with sewn on peacock feathers.
The necklaces are strung from golden freshwater pearls and black onyx.

Barbie is re-rooted and got a haircut from me, but no complete face makeover, I just gave her the red lips. I'm neither a hairdresser nor a painter, so this is the best I could do at the moment.

Yes I am!! XD I'm not kidding, I've been wanting to do a Barbie-sized beady dress for some time but I just can't wrap my head around how to make it removable and keep it nice with her silly bust-waist-hip ratio, but the 20s dress really helps that...
you're very welcome Cat

I'll tell you a secret, I have another Flapper coming which is a little different than this one (I'm such a tease). The problem was that the Barbie I used this time has a Superstar head meaning it's more dangerous to take it off - so I didn't - and the arms are not straight. There's no chance to make the dress removable, so I had to sew it onto her body which wasn't as easy as it sounds.

How about going for Barbie's vintage cousin Francie? She is not as busty etc. Actually I will use one for the next project.

Ahhhhh!

I didn't realize all the heads had different problems too! I knew about different molds etc and that the body types themselves change (from waist ratios and so forth), but even the heads are different! XD Eeeyah. I was actually considering silkstone for myself since then I don't have to worry about the dress being removable and she won't deteriorate into the beads (much) later in her lifespan.

In any case I am so looking forward to the next one!

I love vintage Barbies and have a fine little collection which is probably the reason I'm sticking with them. There's a story about how I got my first Stacey - Barbie's British friend - when I was five and a terrible annoying brat. I got into collecting many, many years later.

The Silkstones are beautiful, though. Good choice!

Ahhh no worries at all! I'm not as much of a fan of the silkstone face molds but I'll deal with it to have the non-plastic body. And of course the customer could then always replace the head with their own time. I've never owned a stacey but they sure are cute

The hair and makeup make a lot of difference in how the Silkstone faces come out. I haven't gone into the subject that far because of my love for vintage. I'm so stubborn!

that's no problem at all! I actually like the general shape of them, I just wish the eyes weren't so "come hither"

She's lovely! Really well done. I can imagine her in a dance scene in The Great Gatsby!
