Description
[[full view, derrr]]Xal, with the stolen mask (which looks extra creepy because of his weird headshape), thinning, and crawling on the ceiling.
The mask is made from two kinds of threads, each made from different chemicals, that react to release a drug when heated. Body heat is all it takes to start it. The drug is a potent accelerant that revs up metabolism and mental processes like no one's business. It'll also kill you in a few minutes as it burns up your flesh for fuel.

The texture's mine. And I'm sure the perspective and crap is wrong. Big learning curve with this pic though. Whew!

Hot damn, you really outdid yourself with this! All the realistic lighting is perfect, and the background, for all its simplicity, is actually quite awesome as well.
I can't get my mind off of all the little stuff here, like the varied lighting on his back that accentuates its curvature, the liquid folds on that mask, and the soft, creamy lighting on the white parts of his skin. Attention to details really, really paid off, here. Kudos, oh yyyeaaaah.

...That comment (As truthful as it was) wasn't intellegent enough. SO.
I think the shading is just so nice. The folds look just how they're supposed to and how the mask sits on his head is just like. so perfect lookin. His pants are just awesomeness and thats like exactly how i pictures him at that part. like really. AND the way you made him thin and all. I dunno. I just think its great too. (yes. i have SUCH a way with words yea?)
And the shadow--how it bends with the walll~ just gawd you have that down.

Glad you like it! I couldn't get that damn scene out of my head once I came across it, so I had to do *something*. So I'm glad it didn't turn out crappylike.
Yes, you are great with words! XD

wow, amazing o_o It's incredibly realistic, and I like that bit of story behind it too x) That shading looks like it took an awfully long time, especially with that checker skin x3 and wow, I love the background and shadow too, amazing

Thanks! The shading was very spazztic, and I was surprised it didn't take as long as it could XD

Be sure to check out the timeline, then the sophonts first. Nanotechnology is a big thing in Orion's Arm, along with biology. It's hard science fiction, so it attempts to stick as close to realistic possibilities as possible.

I am fascinated by these HoC characters. Where can I learn more?
...I also really like the tail texture. You did a great job on this. I can just picture him crawling across a ceiling and me looking up and being all "WTF?!"

So far, there's some stories up at [link] , but there's still much left to tell!
Seeing something like this on the ceiling would really freak me out too! People *rarely* look up, so he could be there for hours and not be noticed! o.o

I am sitting here trying to think of something worthwhile to say instead "HAW HAW IT IS SO COOL," but I'm at a loss. But really, this is so terrifying in such a deeply awesome way. I just imagine sitting in some old, ill-lighted house with no decorations, hearing something from above and looking up to see...that. Again, as with your Casp picture (Candystripes), something about the patterning of the body and tail does my head in.
The texture is delicious, and the lighting is mind-boggling.

Yaywooness! Were you traumatized by a checkered table cloth or something as a child? It might be that geometric patterns are wholly unnatural and that's creepy too. I'm about to paint myself in stripes and come terrorize you!
π: 0 β©: 1
eorhythm In reply to CBSorgeArtworks [2005-11-13 20:21:37 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, it's the whole unnatural aspect of it, I think. I remember having these terrifying "daydreams," at the tender ages of 4 and 5, where I was stuck inside a bright white, endless tube with multicoloured stripes (a lΓ some kid's straws and those multicoloured candycanes) and checkers. No clue where I got it from, though, just my own twisted little brain. Since then such things seem to have quite an impact.
But if you painted yourself in such patterns and came to terrorize me I'd just think a French mime was after me. Wait, that's equally terrifying. D:
