the idea i get from this is that it's sort of a purposeless form of life that came off from something men created. like you said, it's sort of feral, so its lights dont do anything helpful...so maybe it just runs around, living off the grid like a parasite and being irritating like a vermin. maybe genetic mutant pest control has to run around and wipe these things out?
