Description Thylacoleo carmifex, a big ol' killer "marsupial lion" (hate that phrase) from Australia during the Miocene. Big stocky creatures the size of female lionesses whith long powerful arms with hooked "thumbs" not shown. I just had to draw their spiffy spiffy teeth set up (stick ya with incisors instead of canines, and huuuge cusps or whatever they're called to shear off meat) as I haven't seen anything quite like that before, though I ended up drawing fur for hours on end instead. Go fig. I made him too shaggy.

Good practice for megafaunal mammals though. rrrRarr!

Graphite (+ Photoshop touchups for crappy scan)

very cool. very scary. if you hate the name "marsupial lion" i have a better one. the Aussie name for thylacoleo is "Drop-cat". way more appropriate if you ask me. also perfect for describing it. it jumps down onto prey and cuts their spines with those vicious teeth.

great job. why don't you like "marsupial lion"? as for the teeth, they're called carnassials, but I just call them bolt cutters! awesome beast!
