Description
We felt it before we saw it, a deep vibration surging through air- a monstrous heartbeat.It has emerged from the sea and followed the moutnains, its immense footsteps immentently aimed toward the village. We flew past swiftly, daringly, into its shadow, the cranes shivering underneath their saddles. The assesment was grim. There is nothing we can do to stop it but hope it turns to spare our lives.

The Black Critical appears.
This state is new and needs exploration, as it's drastically broken form from traditional criticals. Originally I wanted to draw glowy heart and veins, and it came in to this.
Trying to kick my ass in to the next level and actually work at full force [or: detaildeath, argh!]. Will do things somethings differently next time, but I'm hoping this is a good start.

Everytime I browse through my favorites, I come across this and always feel a sense of awe... Like I'm looking at an image of something sublime, that such a creature can be so huge and powerful, that men can ride on the backs of birds... It's awe- and fear-inspiring. Hence, sublime. Is this from a fantasy novel that I haven't heard of, or did you write/create it yourself? The exerpt is written very well and complements the quality of the picture beautifully and I would love to read/see more. So, where is this story/image from?

My pleasure! I'm a writer and former artists who dabbles occasionally, so it's always great to see people who not only have excellent art, but excellent stories to accompany that art. And it's so very rare to find that...
It would be awesome if you made that into a project: writing that story. It's definitely a novel I'd pick up, and you could use that picture as the cover. ^_^

I'd say it looks a little stuff, but of course really good work! Thanks for posting the closeup shot too. Your monsters are pretty insane.!Your lighting is done sooo well, though maybe a chane of background would help? the rounded mounds look redundant and prehaps a more jaged terrain would bring out the prganic forms in the foreground more.
Nice to find more people at SCAD.

Delicious lighting, great detail and solid design. There are some small lighting issues on the bird's wing in front, but overall it's a very epic, attractive work.

Sorta morbid but awsome. The detail, the scale- the people riding the giant birds give you an idea of just how big this thing really is. I really like the little blurb with it; it gives you a little idea of what it is but leaves a lot up for interpretation, very nice.
