Description ...But the temptation of a discovery so singular and profound at last overcame the suggestions of alarm....I purchased at once a large quantity of a particular salt which I knew from my experiments to be the last ingredient required...and, late one accursed night, I compounded the elements, watched them boil and smoke together in the glass, and when the ebullition subsided, with a strong glow of courage, drank off the potion.

The most racking pangs succeeded: a grinding in the bones, deadly nausea, and a horror of the spirit that cannot be exceeded at the hour of birth or death. Then these agonies began switftly to subside, and I came to myself as if out of a great sickness...

-from "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" by Robert Louis Stevenson.

Holy *crap* I love this story. However, it's popularity sucks, as the novella is a mystery concerning Jekyll and Hyde's connection, and we all already know the dang plot twist. Regardless, it's still great, even controversial. Stevenson's collegues were unnerved by his portrayal of evil as able to overcome good. Ahah.

And for all musical fans, particularly Phantom fans (or anyone who's a crazed dark Romantic like myself), Jekyll & Hyde the Musical is flippin' *fabulous*. Utterly different from the original story, but full of dark and energetic songs. And they won't get out of my head. Holy crap it's addicting.

Oh yeah. I have no judgement about this painting. It rocks and it sucks. I could've done this in an easier medium, but I would rather practice somethiing I've yet to figure out and am desperately trying to learn acrylics.

20"x24" acrylic on canvas board (it's a big sucker, geezus).
(Eheh, anatomy qualms I will brush off by the fact that he's tranforming. So evil, I know.)

I really want to read this book, and you're making it extremely tempting. As a junkie of the musical, I feel it my duty to read the original. I like doing that. Thanks for the little insert^^

OMFG. o.o I love you.
This is my favorite book of all time. I'm on my... 35th read? Haven't heard of the musical. It absolutely pisses me off that people refuse to pick it up and read it. I don't really know why it appeals to me, but I do think part of it is Stevenson's style. I adore Treasure Island, too. But this is by far his best- I am positively obsessed. It's great to see someone giving it credit.

I will give you control of one continent of your choice when I conquer the world.

YES! Fellow obsessee! HALLELUJAH! A portrait's coming too ^.^
It rather surprised me when I realized Stevenson also wrote Treasure Island and all sorts of South Sea adventure stories. Strange that J&H contrasts so much to the majority of those, and yet, it rocks.

Get the musical soundtrack, if only to check out "Alive" and "Possessed" and "Confrontation". Might weird you out with all the changes, though. *shurg* WOO!
