Well, she managed to accidentally get rid of him before the “battered wife” syndrome could kick in whenever she finally thinks about something else.

He seems as much scared as angry and self centered by her ignoring him, like maybe this is very unusual behavior for her and he’s afraid that she’s doing it because she’s resolved to tell on him, and that he maybe should be hightailing it out of town, just in case.
Not all battered women keep going back for the same reason. I don’t think she is the “dependent” kind, or the “self loathing” kind, but is the “obsessive projects” kind, she gets obsessed with figuring out things, and by extension, trying to FIX them if they’re something that doesn’t make sense to her. His being kind and cruel at different times, I bet she perceived it as a mystery to be solved and fixed, and THAT was what kept her coming back, how a man could seem to be such a contradiction. Ah, poor girl couldn’t accept Occam’s razor in this instance, that the simplest explanation is that he’s just a big phony bully. She must have had a very happy childhood to have no experience with such assholes, but she’s simply too sharp and all there, too much of an outlooking personality to be a dependent or self hater. She’s beauty trying to free her prince from the beast skin, but he’s ultimately just an empty beast suit. Nothing in it.
That’s why I’m confident she won’t go back now. Not just because she accidentally scared him badly, but now she has a FAR more important mystery to solve.
