Um...first of all I would to apologize on the scanner bit. It's not that great of a scanner and I don't have a tablet sooo, yeah.Second of all. I never intended this to be an actual piece of art. I started to doodle and this is what came out of it. I don't remember if this is a character or not, but I had a fancy of the way to draw this. The hair still needs work and shading still has to be added. Her expression also is in need of work as well as a few other things. Actually, I consider scrapping the entire thing because of the quality. I never enjoyed drawing anime but w/e. This goes to a portfolio for a friend of mine (for his graduation gift next year

Haha. Thank you. I did another sketch during chemistry class and it turned out better in the way that I had the head tilting in the right position.

Oh... Chemistry... Heh.. I'm passing that class by one point... I'm horrible at math based problems so it's very difficult for me. It's a great class for doodling though. Heh...

Lol, I try to pay attention in class, but every now and then I slip out of focus...it's not like it matters either. The teacher rigs the grades. The girls usually get the higher grades and it ruins the competition.

Woah...really? Wonder why they do that... Maybe they're trying to get the girls to apply for colleges more often to make the highschool look better?
Our English grades are a little rigged.

Well, it's mostly just that one class and the teacher is infamous for rigging the grade. I've gotten a 93 every single quarter even though I get 98s on projects and such. A girl who gets a 81 can get a 96 by the end of a quarter and beat me.
So I kind of stopped trying in that class and nothing has changed much.
However, I started to pay attention again now that I want to take the SAT II for Chemistry. XD

Hahaha. I consider you somewhat lucky.
My friend, who is a far better artist than I am with the pencil (and a great musician) hasn't gotten a lot of letters from colleges either, but he's very focused on where he wants to go. Berkley Institute of Art and Music!
Which, IMO, is awesome that he's pursuing a field in music and the arts. We use to play in a band together back in 8th grade and a little bit into the 9th. However, we went our separate ways obviously (he was more talented musically anyways ). Surprisingly enough, I use to play the drums and currently am continuing with my piano.
But yeah. I've only really looked at 6 universities that have contacted me. Brown University, Drexel University, Northwestern University (in Evanstan, IIlinois), Tulane University, George Washington University (DC), and Washington and Lee University.
So, you play any musical instruments and where are you going to school after HS?

They all sound like great schools. I myself am going to try to get into the Art Institute of Chicago after I take two years of a community college (gotta get those darn core classes out of the way). Although, my uncle and his wife insist that I join them in LA. They figure California would be more suited for an artist. Ugh, I really have a hard time though picking up the motivation or wanting to go to another school, especially an art one. Low self esteem and whatnot.
Heh, I used to play the xylophone. I'm trying to pick up the electric keyboard now.

I used to play the xylophone as well! That was before I quit band anyways. Lol, xylophone players are a bit of a rarity these days.
And the keyboard is fun, but I never got use to the fact that the keys were so easy to press down on. >_<
As for art, it really depends on the scene you want to study in. From your art, I think you would benefit from CA due to the urban scenery since that's kind of what you focus on (urban abstract I'd say). Don't worry about taking an art school. I know many people who were in mid-year through an art college before they dropped out because they believe art can't be taught. Another note, you are a great artist. The fact that your art is unique should make colleges accept you. It's a talent what you have. I just fool around with art as something to lean back on when I'm bored or annoyed.

They really are. I really wish I could play the banjo- it's honestly my dream to learn.
See, that's what I'm afraid- I'll spend all this money and I won't learn a thing. Or, college will be like, 'NO! Draw the way we tell you! ' Or some typical bull like that. Ah, I may just be paranoid.
Ha, you're so great with the computer manipulation, man. I'm stuck with pencil and ink. Guess watercolor too sometimes.

Haha, the banjo? That's awesome. I think my friend actually plays the banjo. His uncle from Wyoming gave it to him a while back but I've never seen/heard him play it.
Colleges are usually more lenient than that (I hope) especially with art. I mean sure, they'll make you practice some stuff that you've never done before, but I think every art teacher enjoys having the opportunity to look at a work and say that it's unique. Even if the person did a canvass entirely of blue (soooo ripped when I saw that in the Metropolitan Museum in NYC >_<. That example shows that art is appreciated in almost any form. With art, you can only get better even if you do the craziest stunts.
Haha, thanks. It's much more talent (believe me) to draw with pencil and more so with ink. I can never ink anything, or paint for that matter (contrary to popular beliefs at my school). Whenever I see someone who is solid with ink, it's amazing. But with me, it just erases whatever creativity I placed in the picture and makes it permanent. Permanent does not go well with me. I erase all the time whenever I draw and pencil feels so much more natural but I still have to work out a lot of stuff. I'm taking pencil art for half a year next year and hopefully, I'll get better. But yeah, photoshopping and manipulating picture doesn't take very long to learn. I started photoshopping at the beginning of last year and took a long long break from it (8 months?) and just got back this winter and am starting to slack off again. I started manipulating 2 months after I started to fool around with some of the tools and I'm currently trying my hand at real-time models (as you can tell ).

The thing with inking is, be lenient with it. Don't expect not to make a few 'mistakes.' It's actually these mistakes that can make a picture better, or so I've learned through trial and error.

I think it's half half but when I dig into the paper a bit, the ink just...spreads out in a "*" formation if you will.

Hmm? Your hand's so shaky you have trouble clicking the reply button? Man, that sucks. *nervous laugh- isn't sure if that was a joke*
Try microns or millenium pens- they're specifically made for inking drawings. Uniballs are more so meant for writing than anything.

Thank goodness. See, I actually believed you for a second because I myself have CTS in my right hand. I actually have trouble opening doors sometimes because of it- due to the turning of the knobs. I was going to be like, 'aww, man! Not him too!'
I'm sure you'll be pleased with a different pen- I hated inking before I bought a micron. Ah, India ink's also nice, but you have to get the right type of pen for it. It can be one of the messiest mediums out there, but a huge chunck of artists use it.

ccgame In reply to mothroach [2007-04-26 04:35:35 +0000 UTC]
And you still ink well... >_<
CTS does suck...anything that hits the nerve is a blow to that section of the body. Then when you get dual brain reflection, it's even worse because your other hand will feel like if it was afflicted with CTS when it's really not. If I had it, it would impair my gaming skills as well as my drawing skills. I don't know how you do it.
I think I've actually used India ink before too. It was very thin and smooth. o_o
But that is all that I remember. Now I have to go to Wal-Mart for my monthly trip and go find some new stuff.

Funny thing is, drawing's one of the least painful things I can do with my hands- you wouldn't think so, though. Inking hurts a little sometimes because I have to exert more pressure than with a pencil, but I'm usually fine. It's using the keyboard and the mouse that induces pain.
Right now, my whole arm's stiff, but I'm so addicted to the computer that I just keep going. It's like drinking- you like the buzz so much that the hangover isn't bad enough to make you stop.
Video gaming can hurt too- I used to be an addict but now I can only go about an hour a week on it. I feel stupid for being on the computer- it'll only make the CTS worse in the long run... But we're in an age where it's near impossible to not interact with the computer... that isn't an excuse for my excessive use though. I could just get a special brace, I suppose, but my insurance first needs to be changed.
I'm starting to think that I am experiencing some DBR... Because I never use my left hand and yet it feels like the wrist is on fire sometimes. I'll wake up in the middle of the night because it's such a wierd feeling.
Taking anti-flammatories really help...eh, sometimes.
Wal-Mart's always fun! Products that are reasonably priced and durable are always good. Bargains are my heroine.

Hahaha. That reminds me of a tag I once saw. "Hentai, my anti-drugs". XD
I hardly ever go to Wal-Mart. I usually order stuff online...that comes free after a mail in rebate! (I'm a bargain hunter )
And yeah, computers are as addicting as drugs if not more and I'd bet CTS doesn't help you much in that matter. I suggest maybe getting one of those mouse pad with a gel cushion at the wrist (a soft gel cushion). Those usually work or perhaps a smaller mouse. The mouse I'm using is small enough so I can wrap my hands around the entire thing and I hold it so my wrist doesn't come in contact when the table. When I game though, I usually take a cloth (like those on shower robes) and wrap it around my wrist area because I hate it when my hand starts going numb since I apply a lot of pressure playing games like Counter Strike.
As for the waking in the night...I could never do that. Not to even go to the bathroom. When I'm out, I'm out. Lol, my parents know too because usually, unless you drench me with water or scream into my ear repeatedly when I've been asleep for less than an hour without headphones playing, you won't wake me up. If I have headphones on and am listening to music when I fall asleep, I tend to wake earlier.

Heh, heh- I go anywhere where I can get my shirts for under five bucks (I'm really cheap like that) and jeans under $15. Wal-Mart's one of the few places that can let me be so stingy.
The mousepad sounds like a great idea... The small mouse even more so. That's why it hurts so so much to use a mouse because my wrist hangs over the table, as you said... I really gotta look into that.. huh.
I used to be a hard sleeper, but next to the pain in my wrists, I have excedingly bizarre dreams noq that just sort of shake me awake. They're not scary or anything, just a little to out there for my own comfort.
Have you seen the movie Hot Fuzz? I'm trying to see what people think of it before I shovel out cash to see it in the theaters. I've heard generally good things about it, but never from a direct person.

My mum buys me all my clothing and I don't mind. She gets them for like a dollar each. XD
Plus, it helps since I hate jeans so I wear khaki or dress pants all the time.
That must definetly suck for you...interrupted sleep patterns are NOT good.
Also, Hot Fuzz, WATCH IT! It's like Shawn of the Dead with the same actors I think. I love the main character's partner.

I love jeans because I can get away with wearing a pair for three days and no one ever noticed. Bad habit of mine not to change clothes sometimes- what's worse is I often sleep in the clothes I go to school in. It's a little gross when I think about it.
Shawn of the Dead was probably one of the best movies in the past decade.

Did you like it? Hot Fuzz has some great quotes too. Especially during the priest scene (my fav.).
Nicholas Angel: I may not be a religious man, but I know the difference between right and wrong.
Reverend Philip Shooter: Oh fuck off, grasshopper.
The story is easy to get into, but it's kind of weird when you miss out the scene where Angel is actually sent into Standford (and the comedy) because Angel has a 400% higher arrest record than anyone else on the London police force.
Yeah, I responded late yesterday because I went to see a play called Man of la Mancha (better known as Don Quixote) with some students from my school. It was great, but there were some bad parts to the overall trip and play.
1) The guy in the rafter who was controlling the spotlights to shine on the characters while they were speaking was horrible. He kept shaking the light and half the time, overshot or missed the person he was aiming at. XD
2) The trip is a 3 hours drive down and another 3 hours drive up
3) On the way up, my behind was numb for a good hour and I couldn't get any sleep when it was numb because...it hurts (I know, random).
4) A friend of mine didn't go because she had to play softball.
5) The rest of my friends on the bus got separated.
6) I had to sit someone I didn't know.
7) It was very very very hot in that auditorium. I was so happy that I wore a polo shirt. Everyone else was wearing long sleeves and some with sport jackets. XD
But yeah. I loved the acting and singing. It wasn't as good as when I went to see Rent on Broadway, but then again, when I saw Rent, I had front row seats and not in the balcony. ^_^
