the helmetless models and fully armored models use separate meshes in the game
mostly because the charecter's head don't really fit inside the helmets

Very nice on your first rigging job.
I know how you feel because I'm also a model rigger/I actually pushed myself to learn how to do it since I have Asberger's Syndrome and I never stay on a single task for a long while/But when it pertains to something I really like, I push myself to learn how to do it.
When I first saw these models in the game, I always saw the suits of armor as Kamen Rider suits.
If you don't know what Kamen Rider is, look it up as Kamen Rider is a very awesome series from Japan.
Pertaining to MMD, I actually have a bunch of models from the Kamen Rider Climax Heroes games/Climax Heroes is a Kamen Rider fighting game. I also have them up in my gallery if you'd like to take a look.
Also, I recently learned how to add my own bones to a model. Now, I just need to learn about to get physics for capes to work right and I'm pretty much golden.
