What do you think is the meaning of this painting?

This piece originated one day as I was sketching. I started to form an association of various ideas that are more or less linked and it turned into this concept. It ended up being the piece I created that took me the longest to complete, although I didn't work on it all the time. Sometimes I just worked on it for a bit and then I left it without touching it for days. I believe I started it in july last year. It makes me wonder whether it was worth taking so much time to complete it, but in the end I'm happy with the end result. And I think that's what really matters!
