Man I love the detail in this, fantastic shading and her expression really goes well with her pose. Beautiful job.

Its strange that the first place I ever heard of Deja Thoris was on an episode of Carl Sagan's 'Cosmos'; he was a fan of Edgar Burroughs as well, and dreamed of visiting mars like the hero of those books.
With a woman like this waiting for us there, we can all dream of visiting mars

Dammit man! you so beat me to the punch on this! XD
I had a plan for a series of amazon or Nubian pin ups and this type of character is pretty much the only one that went anywhere!

I think this is the first fanart of Dejah I have ever seen, and it is truly fantastic!
She's from The Martian Tales of Edgar Rice Burroughs series of books, also known as the John Carter of Mars books (the lead hero). Dejah Thoris, babe supreme, is the starring princess.
They're wonderfully fun (if a bit dated) especially when you find out the first was written in 1912. And *very* risquΓ© for the time, considering everyone walks around naked with just jewellery and a cape

CE-Rap In reply to DrOfDemonology [2007-01-09 00:32:02 +0000 UTC]
yea, that's right!
I used to notice people drawing a raven-haired woman/half naked, with lots of elegant jewelry. Adam Hughes, Phil Noto, Frank Cho--(just to name a few of the countless) all did tons of pictures of her, and I never quite understood her deal.
The first time I ever learned who she is, I read it in a Frazetta book I got a few years back. Then, it all made sense
I'm really glad you like it, Doc!

ooh nice pic. Yeah, and like someone said she's not like a stick figure, that's better. (actually that's one of my bad habits when I draw girls.) Yeah this is a nice picture alright.
