I don't necessarily agree with the message, but it's worth mentioning. This man truly believed that 'vegan' is the way to go. He was the anti-meat preacher of Market Street in San Francisco. Unfortunately, he wasn't very bright.
One of our funnier conversations:
Vegan Guy: If you eat meat, it's medically proven you'll become infertile.
Me: people have been eating meat for thousands of years and they can still have babies.
Vegan Guy: Well, thousands of years ago they used to have slaves, so how about that?
Me: Um, I'm leaving now...
14-August update: A DD!! How cool is that?? Thanks for all the faves, and wish I could thank each one individually. Big cheers!

To the vegan nut; there is plenty of crap in nonmeat and solely plant foods. Small trace amounts of rodent feces, hair, blood, bug parts, and eggs are found/allowed in flour, oats, soy powder, chocolate, peanut and nut butter, nut flours, tomato sauce and other foods. He better be swearing off those foods too. He's too dim and biased to know how silly he sounds. He could benefit from some good organic meat.

I make sure to only eat the animals. Because they have had the added benefit of already having the vegetables inside them, already digested.

I agree with his anti-meat message, but I think it'd be far more effective if he dropped the long-haired bum look so people don't make the stereotypical associations with vegetarians/vegans. Also, it's not very socially responsible to be exposing children to the word "shit," no-one respectable will listen to you if you think you have to use cuss words to get the point across. Both things are working against the message.Β

People have been eating animal protein since the dawn of humanity and reproduced fine. That claim is nothing but a scare tactic and a lie. In fact so much of the 'China Study' is riddled with poor methodology, half truths, and lies written by a man who is in love with his ideas and backed by the Physicians' Committee for Responsible Medicine which is connected to the lying terrorist group known as Peta. Plenty of sources and groups debunked it.Β Β

No society or culture has lived off of veganism and the Chinese are no different. They raise and eat a variety of animals. Also obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and other associated ills are modern ailments within the last century. It makes no sense to blame old food sources for modern diseases. Excessive sugar, salt, and lack of exercise are better blame canidates. The China Study should be retitled the China Sham and placed in the fiction section. One of the reasons why people quit veganism is the lack of sex drive and the inability to get pregnant.Β

Oh, trust me. Having poop in meat is not as bad as many of the chemicals that you can find in colorants. Another thing worth mentioning is that apple seeds contain cyanide yet no one is trying to force people to stop eating apples.

My point was that other foods and drinks that we normally consume contain chemicals that can be dangerous for us such as the apple with cyanide in it's seeds or the food colorants that are made from petroleum. I never said that I liked eating shit. The fact that you immediately assumed that I eat meat (which I do BTW) or, as you say, eat shit says a lot about you. Assuming that someone eats meat based on the fact they don't treat something that PETA claims seriously is stupid even if your assumptions are correct. Also, there's a good reason as to why you have to wash your vegetables. They can come with bacteria so if the point that you're trying to make is that meat is filthy and vegetables are clean it doesn't really work. Everything that we eat has a certain amount of filth especially if it's something like an animal or a plant. Which is why people are very careful when preparing food to avoid food poisoning.

Eat whatever you wish to eat (healthy or not, no one cares), just don't kill and torture innocent animals in the process. Β And no, fact is we do not need animal products to surwive or be healthy, every nutrien can be found in plant food.
Hope you got the point now.Β

I never once brought up anything about wether or not we're meant to eat meat. What I was talking about is the fact that filth isn't only a problem with meat. Looks like someone ironically didn't get my point. Plus if you're talking about the point of the picture, I understand the point of the picture, but this is not what I'm talking about honey. I'm talking about your comment. So don't bring this whole "we do not need animal products to surwive or be healthy, every nutrien can be found in plant food". I'm talking about filth, not nutrients.Β

Your point was that there was shit in meat in your first comment. Then I said that other foods contain dangerous chemicals. Then you said that I said that I like eating shit. I replied and explained my point. Then you replied with some stuff about nutrients which was not the point of my reply. Vice versa honey, you don't seem to have gotten the point of my reply. And no, I don't need to read the description to get the point of the picture. I'm not as stupid as you think I am.

The best option is being an Omnivore consuming an equal amount of Veggies and Meat, it's what our digestive system were made for.

Maybe there is no shit in the meat, but a lot of antibiotics and suffering of the animals.
Everybody should inform about the substance of our food. Especally how it is made.
This homeless man knows that meat is unhealthy for people and animals.
But i agree with you, that meat donΒ΄t makes you infertile, instead you get other consequenses.
18% of the worldwide global warming gases comes from industrial livestock farming.
There are more and more bacteria who are resistant against antibiotics because of the factory farming. Accordingly people get more terminal diseases.
The animals are living in a dark room, without daylight. They live in they own shit and have a lot of injurys. Most animals canΒ΄t even walk, and many animals are dying in cause of diseases.
Inform you about your meal.
Think about it.

It is not only the meat...
Same goes for plants, god knows what bizzare chemicals are in them!
The most natural plant food would be grown at home, no pesticides or any cides at all, with all the tiny bugs and larvae in them included.
Yes little tiny animals in the plant (mostly fruit) food for added on protein.
^^ I really suggest that kinnd of food.
So its not only the meat but also the plants that will probably give out nasty consequences.
Sad to hear that, I would wish most people would do something against it, no animal needs that kind of suffering, nor do the plants deserve being pumped with pointless chemicals and 'protection' from pest.
Aye, we need to know about our food, plant or meat, both need to be checked if they come from healthy grounds.

(Sorry for my english, I'm not a native)
Yeah, "vegan" is really to much, I can't agree with that message too. I'm eating meat, not too much, but I do. The problem is not the meat, it's the people who eat it. It's a fact that our society eats too much meat, so there is a need to produce more of it (hard to call it a production). Since they want to keep prices low for the customers, the quality sucks. The feed stuff like oil, industrial waste and so on. Animals become ill (like they did the last 10 years too often) and we keep on eating it. But however "Vegans" don't use this facts, they talk more about a moral problem, which is really not worth to discuss, since it is more an emotional conversation you would have. My problem is really the "production" of meat, not the fact that we eat it. Meat is important. But now a days there are just too many unhealthy things in it, that's why I like the picture. The first guy of the "Vegan" who doesn't use the moral-problem they have, he uses more the problem of meat production and if you look at what they feed to animals, he is right. After all: a very very good picture, I really like it!

Cool ! Great photo ! Everything is perfect, I like the composition ! Congratulation !
I think being vegetarien is different from being vegan, the difference is the milk products.
Shit or not in the meat, it doesn't matter as I really think we eat too much meat. However I like meat, we should reduce our consumption of meat for these reasons :
- Meat is eshausting the ressources of our planet, because producing meat requires too much energy for the amount of people we are on Earth.
- Too much meat exhaust your body : meat is the hardest food to digest.
Some scientists have established that during the prehistory, Humans ate meat about once a week. The increase of consumption of meat really started in the USA in the 50s because they had some overstocks and made some publicity to sale it ( if I remenber well what I read on that subject).
This is just my opinion with what I heard and read about the subject, you may have a different one ! And I don't think there is only one solution for everybody : try to ask Inuits to be vegetarien
!

cedrus In reply to Robin-Hugh [2012-01-06 09:39:50 +0000 UTC]
Thank you Hugues!
You're right that there is overconsumption of meat. And I believe the solution to that is for people to realize what's best for their health.
The moral debate about vegetarians being on a higher moral ground than meat-eaters is ridiculous and will never amount to anything.
(And I definitely agree about the Inuits.)

Either way, I would have loved to sit there and argue with that guy. lol. Especially with the whole infertile thing. I'd be yanking his chain. "Actually, meat makes people more fertile. It is why we have so many idiots in the world procreating, because about 80% of humans are meat eaters.... and that's why we have overpopulation problems." lol.
