It's easy to forget that April, with her façade of being a tough street-kid, is a relative newcomer to this 'fight in the face of death to save the world' thing. She is, basically, a sixteen-year old kid who has suddenly found herself having to learn to become a warrior and fight for the very future of all humanity. She's entitled to be scared sometimes and need to be just held by one of her brothers-by-choice until she can stop herself crying.
I think that Master Splinter would put it this way: "Until you have confronted and acknowledged your fears, you cannot hope to surmount them."
