Description
All right, so here's the third part of my John Donne and Fullmetal Alchemist crossover. The poem in question is the Canonization:
For God's sake hold your tongue, and let me love,
Or chide my palsy, or my gout,
My five gray hairs, or ruined fortune flout,
With wealth your state, your mind with arts improve,
Take you a course, get you a place,
Observe his honor, or his grace,
Or the king's real, or his stampèd face
Contemplate; what you will, approve,
So you will let me love.
Alas, alas, who's injured by my love?
What merchant's ships have my sighs drowned?
Who says my tears have overflowed his ground?
When did my colds a forward spring remove?
When did the heats which my veins fill
Add one more to the plaguy bill?
Soldiers find wars, and lawyers find out still
Litigious men, which quarrels move,
Though she and I do love.
Call us what you will, we are made such by love;
Call her one, me another fly,
We're tapers too, and at our own cost die,
And we in us find the eagle and the dove.
The phœnix riddle hath more wit
By us; we two being one, are it.
So, to one neutral thing both sexes fit.
We die and rise the same, and prove
Mysterious by this love.
We can die by it, if not live by love,
And if unfit for tombs and hearse
Our legend be, it will be fit for verse;
And if no piece of chronicle we prove,
We'll build in sonnets pretty rooms;
As well a well-wrought urn becomes
The greatest ashes, as half-acre tombs,
And by these hymns, all shall approve
Us canonized for Love.
And thus invoke us: "You, whom reverend love
Made one another's hermitage;
You, to whom love was peace, that now is rage;
Who did the whole world's soul contract, and drove
Into the glasses of your eyes
(So made such mirrors, and such spies,
That they did all to you epitomize)
Countries, towns, courts: beg from above
A pattern of your love!"
Now, originally, I was going to put Lingfan as "The Sun Rising" since that poem talks about Princes and States, and Ling is a Prince. But, once I read the first line of this poem, I realised, this had to apply to Lingfan. The speaker in the poem is basically telling everyone to buzz off because he loves his beloved, and his love isn't harming anyone. The speaker goes on to state that, even if he and his beloved cannot be together in life, they will be together in death, and that their love is so powerful that others will pattern their relationships on it.
I can completely picture Ling telling the Xingese nobility to buzz off when they start giving him shit about loving Lan Fan since, as he is Emperor and she is a commoner, they would not be allowed to marry. I also think that he would definitely feel that, if they couldn't be together in life, they would be together in death. Which is sad, and beautiful.
The phoenix in the background comes from the third stanza, where the speaker talks about the male and female joining together into a sexless being--a phoenix. Also, Ling has a bird motif on his orginal outfit, so it does fit. I'm so happy with the way the Phoenix, Ling and Lan Fan turned out--though I wish my ocean looked better. Ah wel . . .

I love that you don't choose the poems of certain words but rather on it's general meaning. (My teacher would have loved you )
And it's awesome that you've chosen the Phoenix... I feel a little like being back at school. My teacher interprets something and I'm like "wow makes sense but I would never have think about it.." I guess I'm only good with technology Anyway I love how the Phoenix turned out! It really looks great! Also Lan Fan and Ling loos so cute. (She is touching his butt~
)
For the ocean: The waves in front are ok but at the horizon you wouldn't see the waves like that. It's almost straight. and you could add some darker colour in front because the back is always a little brighter than everything what's closer to the viewer.
I hope I could help a little.

Wow, I'm so pleased you liked my reasoning behind the poems, and how I'm representing them. You're not only good with technology--your art is absolutely amazing!
Aww, thank you. I'm glad you liked my Phoenix (i thought people would think it weird that there's a random flaming bird in the picture) And, I'm happy you like Ling and Lan Fan. I really struggled to draw the two of them--and I nearly forgot Lan Fan's automail arm . I didn't intend for her to touch his butt--but he has a nice butt, so we can forgive her that.
Thanks so much for the tips. I'm always wanting to improve, but I'm self-taught, so I never know how to find out how to draw things properly--particularly backgrounds. Thanks so much!

yes, it's really nice to read that! I hope to see and read some more of your crossovers
ok art and technology~
I liked the "random flaming bird" in the background but as I've read why you put it there, I loves it.
Oh my, I sometimes forgot to draw Saira's glasses and then I'm thinking "something is wrong. WHat's wring with her? ... Oh the glasses!"
hehe you didn't intend for her but she wanted to touch his but so you had do
You're welcome! I know that feel I'm also self-taught and the struggle with improving is strong but so is my volition!
I'm happy I could help I don't do traditional art often but I can give you some tips from time to time if I know an easier or better way.

I'm glad you like this series of pictures!
Yep. Lan Fan didn't give me a choice about touching Ling's butt. But, he doesn't mind at all.
I couldn't believe I forgot her automail--I almost had to throw away the picture because of it. I can see how forgetting the glasses would be a problem--but maybe Avarus stole them again?
I'd love any tips or advice.

Yes, I do!
Of cours, he doesn't mind at all.
no, never throw away a picture! D:
hehe true but good for me I can always add things if I'll ever forget something.
but yes, Avarus could have stolen them again.
That's great to hear!

Naughty Avarus--give Saira back her glasses! Damn that sexy man.
I sometime have too--when I get too discouraged, or when I've erased things so much that I can't see what is supposed to be there and what isn't.
I appreciate all the advice--part of the reason I joined devianart is to try and improve.

naughty Avarus ... my mind is showing me pictures I don't want to see that early in the morning
she can't see without her glasses but she can still feel ... not that bad of an idea~
I know that feel but for me I can't throw away pictures. I just put them aside and make them new. I've many old sketches and scribbles which are really horrible or never finished but sometimes those help me to go on. It's like my old self is telling me "Here! Look at them! Look what you have done and dare you to trwo it away. Look at it and do it better!"
Strange way to motivate myself, isn't it?
That's good to hear. I don't often give advice and when I do I often asked if he/she wants to hear it because there are people who really don't want to hear tips. They hate you for that if you point out mistakes. But when I read your artist comment I thought you would like to hear and you're right critique and advice are important for improvement.

Ooohh, can still feel . . . I can see where that's going . . .
Whatever motivates you is always good. It doesn't matter if it's strange or not. Surprisingly, I may throw away old drawings, but I have tonnes of notebooks with half-finished stories that I keep in order to motivate myself, or for idea references, so it's a similiar thing.
I guess I'm more of a writer than an artist.
I'm not offended at all. Any advice--whether on my drawing or my writing is appreciated. I'm glad you're willing to help me improve.

No, it's not going anywhere ... Avarus please go away
now I have to think about my one drawing with him and Saira. I wanted to draw something more sexy preparing for a good night, you know what I mean? ... it started all good but ended up without clothes!
I could show you because I'm still not brave enough to upload those kind of content for everyone.
hehe so we have something in common (again) even if you have old writings and I have old pictures.
That's a good attitude! I try to help as much as I can

hehe thanks
I don't know maybe, someday ... I'll do those kind of stuff. I know that artists who draw mostly mature content are very popular but that's not how I want to be remembered.
I did kind of a mature content picture. It was a commission but I haven't uploaded because I was so embarrassed!

CelestialInk In reply to Isi-Daddy [2016-12-15 14:15:38 +0000 UTC]
I know people like mature content, but I can understand where you're coming from--I also don't really want to be remembered for writing that sort of thing . . . or drawing it.
I think your art is wonderful as is, so I'm also fine with no mature content.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Isi-Daddy In reply to CelestialInk [2016-12-16 09:00:29 +0000 UTC]
Yes, they do~
Same, but I also don't want to make another account with those kind of stuff like others doing it.
I also noticed that I'm not a fan of seeing explicit mature content. I also tried it my self once. I start with a nacked body and it looks really cool and sexy I left out the private parts but I also wanted to try them so I added them as well. It was well drawn but I have to say without the private parts it's more interesting because you'll always be curious how he/she will look like.
Thanks I won't say I'm never doing it because of course I want to draw Saira and Avarus someday .... but as I said you won't see explicit smut~

Yeah, I understand why you don't want multiple accounts. That is just a bit too much work.
I also am not a fan of very explicit mature content. And, I agree with you when you say some things should be left to the viewer's imagination.
If you eventually feel comfortable sharing the mature content, I'd like to see it.

Yes, it's more exciting I think.
I sent it too you, but don't laugh ... ok, you can laugh because I always do so

Yeah, I can see the problems with starting a new account--and money is definitely one of them!
I agree, it's more exciting--but also, weirdly, I feel like I'm intruding on the characters' privacy if things are too explicit . . .
I saw it--and it looked pretty good. I won't lie though, I did giggle .

Isi-Daddy In reply to CelestialInk [2016-12-19 10:27:43 +0000 UTC]
I wouldn't have to buy a core membership if I would make a new account but since I had mine for a long time I don't want to cancel it. Deviantart is my way to gain a little appreciation for my art and since deviantart is my favourite website for sharing my art it's only a pleasure to spend some money to also have more opportunities to force people to look at my pictures.
THAT is true! Like the one sexy picture I showed you of Avarus and Saira... I don't know it's like I'm not allowed to see that. It's their private time!
haha I knew it! But it's ok I always giggle about that:

And, I think it's a fantastic site--so much more friendly than other places I've seen.

It's weird--they're so real to us, we worry about their modesty . . .

Yes, it a nice feature
That is true, I'm also happy to use it I've met so many nice people here (I also lost a view friend I don't know where they just stopped talking to me~)
but I'm here for almost 9 years and that's been a long time I don't want to leave.
That is true, deviantart is the most tolerant as far as I experienced. Of course here are also some jerks but most of the people are nice.
I know! But If I want to get some new people to like my art I have to force them.. gently by uploading them into groups
yes, that is true...

Wow, nine years. That's a really long time! And, if you've made some good friends, there really isn't a reason to leave.
There are jerks everywhere, I guess. Sad fact that is.
Uploading into groups--erm, how do you do that? Look there's my technological incompetence again!

Yes! I need something to celebrate my 10th anniversary next year.
Yes, that's true! I saw that many older artists I followed are gone. It's really sad.
True, but, like tumblr, I don't get those people who know what's right or rong but they are still unable to that it's not right to hate someone for something they have done a couple of years ago. And of course they changed their opinion but those people still get hate.
If you want it the easy way: Go to one of my fma pictures, scroll down and on the right side you see "groups" open them, join them and then you can contribute your art/writtings.
You could also hover over "more" on top of this page and click on "group" there you can search for every group.
If you joined a group there are several ways to submit your art/writtings there. First as I said go directly to the croup or view your art, scroll down to "groups" (on the right) and there you have a "add to more groups" button.
You can add a "group box" to your profile so you'll find your groups which you've joined. (Just click "edit" on your profile page)
If you don't want to add another box just click on the icon with the two people while your on you messahe dashboard and then click on "manage" you'll find every artist and groupd you're following here.
I hope I could help.

OOhh, an anniversary picture. I can't wait to see that.
That's sad--I always feel a bit forlorn when people I talk to just disappear.
I just can't understand why people have to be nasty to others. Criticism is okay--as long as it's constructive. And, liking different things is also okay, as long as people express their preferences in a polite manner. But, tearing down other people because of what their art looks like, or because of what they like is horrible.
That's why I was so worried about posting up my Greelingfan stories--I was afraid of the nasty comments I might get.
I think I will try and do that! Thanks for the advice. I'd like more people to see my art.

It's next year in December
Same here but it happend to me quite often that people just quit talking to me. I don't know why and I stopped asking me this.
That is true, I also don't get why people need to hate each other for a different kind of view on certain things. I think it's great that we all don't think the same. But some aren't able to express their opinion in a proper way. :/
I see, but don't worry deviantart is mostly very nice and as I said before, if someone would write a nasty comment I'm here to protect you!
Yes, do it! and good luck!
