Description
This was a costume I had never thought I would do but Ive been playing ALOT of Castlevania lately and going back through the older games to learn more about the characters. Sonia was supposed to be the first Belmont but unfortunately she was taken out of the official canon a few years ago for a variety of reasons(Leon Belmont replaced her in the official story line). I was pretty angry about this and decided to reinvent her costume. Her original costume was pretty simple so I re sketched her using elements from Kojimas art. I used recycled fabrics for the bulk of the costume, I had plenty of left overs from previous cosplays and happen to have some nice red filigree satin on hand. I did this whole costume by hand, made the pattern myself, cut and sewed everything. I recycled also an old pair of knee high boots I havent worn in years and added appliques and gold lace to them. The whip and accessories were store bought. I tried to get all of the subweapons together from the game! I really love this costume I plan to wear it a few more times, its great for the grueling Tokyo Summers and its pretty sexy to boot!Related content

aside from Castlevania you did a great job with the details of your version of Sonia, to my opinion is awesome.

She can STILL BE CANNON! There is no Belmont in either 1450 OR 1666! The problem keeping Sonia from making a come back is Koji Igarashi (the man in charge of producing Castlevania)! Like a typical Japanese male he won't give us a video game with a strong female protagonist!

Yaaaaay another Sonia Belmont fan! IGA can go blow one. She was one of the most interesting things Castlevania had going for it until he came in and made it a boys club full of half thought out mary sue Belmonts.

Juste Belmont. Who the hell is that? Does anyone care about him? What does he do? Arrange furniture. Argh.

This is totally awesome!
I always struggled with redesigning Sonia, because I wanted to include her armor, but this looks terrific!
Congratulations on the cool and interesting interpretation of the character!

I was planning on having her armor gauntlets but when i looked at her old design i wondered why she had only her hands armored and no other part. I may add it later on but i would want to balance out the costume buy adding some to my legs or something.

Wait , didn't she had a breastplate too?
I think they didn't gave her armor on her legs because the designs were a bit more on the anime side( I mean trying more to the fantasy side rather that the more-somewhat- realistic of Ayami Kojima's designs)and try to keep her more "girly" than "knight-ish"

Nope she only wore a green leotard under a off shoulder coat and had grey thigh highs.

Digging the cosplay, great revamp here! o:
However, just one thing to correct here.
>"Sonia was supposed to be the first Belmont but unfortunately she was taken out of the official canon a few years ago because of her Gender."
While I've heard this one a lot, her actual reasons for being removed was that it was implied that Alucard was the father of Trevor Belmont, which would have completely thrown off the Vampire Killer story.
And, well, as much as I love Sonia, it makes sense. ;_;

Not any more sense then lord of shadows lol. The canon is screwed either way you look at it now unless the writers really pull something out of their bums lol. I enjoy the games non the less. Just wish they would have kept Sonia.

You're right about that being the official reason, but Igarashi also said he found hard to believe a girl would be a heroine in that time an age(err...Joan of Arc anyone?), so I say that her gender had some degree of relevance in the final decision.
The game itself was really bad and her backstory was kinda conflicted, but still I felt that it was better justified than later Leon Belmont's and his vampire killer story. In Sonia's story she was sort of God's response to Dracula, and the fact that Trevor could be Alucard's son would make more sense in various level: Belmont clan innate powers, their "curse" to hunt Dracula, Alucard's decision to join Trevor...besides it would make more of good narrative conflict between the characters.
Going by LOI story, the Vampire Killer is created by the soul of Leon's wife, and later he somewhat curses his entiry descendants to "hunt the night"...I dunno, for one part the arguments seem lame to me, and for other I don't know how most this even possible: So according to this the only thing that compels Belmonts to fight evil is a promise made by their forefather? Really?? And even if the chronologically later games always mention it being a curse... How about the Vampire Killer? It's said to kill those who whield it but aren't Belmonts, why? Was Sara that jelous of his former husband? Afterall, none of the other Belmonts has any bond to her, she died before having any child so all Leon's descendants aren't related to her- it's a giant mess!
And I could argue more subject's that this game changes the cannon for no good reason, in fact the only good things this game introduces is Dracula's backstory and the Ebony and Crimson stones, but on the Belmont side is a giant mess.Still, I don't know much of this stands for now with the retcon of the newest games with Gabriel Belmont.

Hard to consider a woman being a heroine in that time and age? OH THAT IS BULLSHIT! Excusing "ATTEMPTING" to remove Sonia from the Castlevania timeline in order to make it more "RELEVANT" to actual historical time? YEAH! I suppose armies of werewolves, wargs, skeletons, zombies, and demons pouring out of a FREAKING CASTLE THAT APPEARS OUT OF THE GOSH-DARN BLUE EVERY 100 YEARS IS SOO DAMN CLOSE TO BE REALISTIC WHEN COMPARED TO OUR HISTORY? Fucking Igarashi is such a chauvinist!

Preciselly it would've been a better response to just say "we're taking out of the canon those games that weren't very good or weren't popular enough"
On the post-"Lords of Shadows" continuity the bond between Belmont clan and Dracula has gotten even tighter than before

They WERE popular! Every kid in my home town played Castlevania Legends when I was growing up and ALOT OF PEOPLE were looking forward to Sonia making a come back in Resurrection (which she STILL CAN as she is HASN'T BEEN COMPLETELY REMOVED FROM CANNON)!

I was talking about all the games that were erased the same way, such as the Nintendo 64 Cv's.
I think that Konami is focusing on the new chronology for Castlevania, where ***********************************SPOILERS******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
Dracula is Gabriel Belmont, and his son is Trevor Belmont, and again it doesn't seem that there will be a Sonia in that timeframe. Alucard and Simon Belmont has also been mentioned.

Oh, you mean the ALTERNATE TIMELINE that the new Castlevania series takes place in. With Zobek as Death and the fight against Lucifer and all that right? I believe that's an alternate timeline.

I haven't played any of those so I don't know many of the details but Konami is launching a sequel of the Lords of Shadow for the X-box starring this new versions of Dracula and Alucard and a portable sequel starring reimagined versions of Trevor and Simon, so with this many new releases that also follows this new storyline it makes me wonder if they will ever go back to the old one again, now that Koji Igarashi isn't in charge of the franchise anymore.

To be perfectly honest I really don't like Lords of Shadow at all. I mean, come on, a Belmont is DRACULA and ANOTHER BELMONT is his SON? At best this is comparable to turning Castlevania into a soap opera version of God of War and at worst it's Konami turning Castlevania into something comparable to the Twilight series (shudders at the thought)!
