Original FF 7 fanfic
Takes place after DOC
Vincent X Genesis X Reader
You were suddenly standing on the other side of the door and what greeted you was a cozy looking bedroom. The type that would have belonged to any young girl where some stuffed animals adorned a simple bed and quilted comforter and a lace curtain hung on a large window frame. The carpet floor was light blue and plush while the walls were cleanly white with a few posters here and there of music bands and other memoirbillia. None of this you remembered but it felt warm and inviting and you carefully searched the room looking at everything. When a framed picture caught your eye on the book shelf across the way you snatched it up and stared at what was clearly yourself, with very different hair and a much younger face staring back at you.
"What....?" You whispered to yourself as you touched the photo with your finger tips and stared at the family members surrounding you. Clearly they were your family and yet you felt nothing looking at them, no recollection what so ever. So you held onto the photo frame and made your way out of the room and down the stairs that lead to a big open living space with a sofa and tv. The tv was on and its screen glowed with a familiar news broadcasting anchor sitting behind her desk and reporting the daily news. You had never seen this show before but its type was apparent and obvious so you looked on as she gave you the days events and it was not what you expected.
"In regards to the Meteor incident that occurred 6 months ago, authorities are insisting all people stay inside and anyone displaying symptoms of signs of contamination are to seek medical assistance at once." and next to her came up a small list of symptoms that you quickly scanned over. "Some noted symptoms are confusion, lethargy, fainting and memory loss. Also unusual displays of aggression or sleep walking may also be connected."
Then the screen changed and they were replaying home video of the Meteor fall. The movie was shaky and amateur with static over riding most of the sound but in it people screamed and ran as some pointed to the sky and a large fireball fell in the distance. When is struck the earth, your whole house shook as if reliving the very memory and tore itself apart at it wall seams and timbers in a loud groan. With your house blown away by the shockwave of the impact you were suddenly standing in a whole new place and witnessing an entirely new scene.
The building were tall and numerous, bunched together in nice blocked groups with streets criss crossing through them in nice straight lines. Abundant cars filled the streets though some were destroyed and on fire while flanking you on both sides were endless windows of shops that once serviced the people of this great city. Midgar had been impressive in its day but it didn't have the sheer size that this city had. Midgar was like a 3rd world copy compared this this.
Gunfire echoed from somewhere, the sounds of war, people screaming, planes flying overhead and commands being shouted filled the darkness and then it warped into another scene. You were standing in the middle of a vast battle with the bodies of comrades laying at your feet in their own blood. The area was red with fire and smoke as buildings smoldered overhead. Jet fighters flew over you in the direction of a massive being that in the distance towered over the city like a specter of death. It was total chaos and devastation and that being in the center of it all was the enemy. An enemy you immediately recognized as Jenova.
You carefully stepped around the bodies scattering the street and followed down the road. So this was the past. A past world that no longer existed that you somehow had been apart of and that big black shadow looking in the distance rampaging its way across the city was Jenova. This was the moment in history when she had nearly decimated the world but if history was true than the ancients would be along any moment to stop it...wouldn't they?
As you continued walking you were getting closer to Jenova until she was some few hundred feet away. You had never seen her like this, not this size or shape. She was like a demon straight out of hell with her alien like flesh and strange wing like structures jutting out of her back. Her feminine like face was contorted in a evil grin as she enjoyed the bloodshed she was bringing to this world. But her sheer size indicated she had collected and devoured many beings on this planet, joining their cells to hers and leaching all of their memories and powers into herself until she physically grew to accomodate all the mass. And she would only keep growing too as she devoured more and more until there was nothing left.
Her red eyes suddenly landed on you and she stared down at you from her lofty height the way one might eye a small insect it was about to step on and her tendrils of darkness shot down at you. Capturing you like a fish on a hook you were hoisted into the air by your arms and legs and stretched out as if to be quartered alive. She raised you above the street and buildings until you were level with her giant face. Only then did you realize that in your left hand you clutched something that was no longer the photo frame. It looked like materia but it had some other electronics strapped to it. Your hand and arm were also dressed in uniform you never remembered putting on in the first place but now here you were being strangled alive by Jenova and wearing a soldiers uniform with angel wing emblems on the chest and shoulder. And only in that moment did you finally understand and rememberred everything.
Flashbacks ripped through your mind in the span of seconds and your eyes widened in horror at this new revelation.
"Hey sis! Come see outside! There's something crazy going on!"
"Holy crap is that a meteor?"
"Think Aliens are on that thing?"
"Ugh....i'm not feeling so good. Mom and dad are complaining of the same thing. God my head hurts...."
"Sorry....I dont think I can go on....this voice it keeps telling me to....."
"You've lost your family to the scourge. What will you do?"
"If you want to fight against her, then you will need this. Go with God."
And reality came back hard and slapped you in the face as you stared at the device. "Oh my god!" You gasped as her tendrils tightened around you and you cried out. Struggling was of little use though as in that moment you were just a human girl hell bent on revenge but having none of the strength of your mage self that would come in the future. Panicking you squirmed and shouted, trying to break free but there was no use fighting against something of that magnitude. You were a fish on a hook to her and about to be devoured as were multitudes of other victims before you. So you screamed as loud as your lungs could out of frustration and anger.
Vincent dropped out of the sky and sliced away the tentacles that held you up as he grabbed you and jumped to the roof of the nearest smoldering building where you clung to him as if he were the last sane thing in the universe. Burying your face in his tattered cowl and huddling there like a frightened child as everything around you suddenly froze in mid motion as if someone had hit the pause button on a movie and everything went deadly silent.
Shivering against him you cried and let out all the frustration of 2000 years you had pent up inside you and your psyche and he stood there like your faithful sentinel letting you do so without judgement. He had only pity and comfort to offer you, after seeing the chaos raging around you in your own mind and he easily pieced together what this all meant just by looking at the paused creature in the distance in the middle of ravaging another world.
"Vincent!!!!!" You cried out his name many times as you sobbed.
"I'm here. Its okay." He said softly and laid his chin on the top of your head. "Just let it all out."
After a few minutes you held up the device that had been intended for the monster and tried your best to speak in a clear voice that was still choked with pain. "Do you understand all of this?"
You felt him nod against your head. "Yeah.....you were a victim of the first Jenovian war 2000 years ago."
Only then did you lift your head and he saw your tear laced red eyes. "I had nothing else left so I decided to take my own life by trying to rob Jenova of hers. I knew it was impossible, that it was suicide but the Cetra needed someone to buy them some time so I volunteered. The resistance gave me a bomb and I delivered it to her.....but then something happened. In that moment when I should have died....she appeared."
"She?" He asked.
"Minerva."
The memory faded away and the whole area turned to white as Minerva, in all her splendor appeared before you. Her golden armor and glaive glistened as a hidden face behind a spartans helmet peered at you.
"She was the Goddess of this realm. " You said as Vincent and you stared at the strange woman who towered over you both silently but from her being eternal light and compassion seeped from her being. "But she needed a human avatar so she choose me. From that day on I was her and she was me...but my body was too damaged so she put me to sleep in the earth for 2 millenia, only to be awoken because Jenova had been set loose by Shinra. The goddess cant tolerate something so impure in this world and thus...neither could I."
"Then those with her cells....Sephiroth and Genesis..."He began.
You shook your head against him in protest and covered your face with your hands. "I was meant to kill them but I couldnt do it! I felt the will of the Minerva but I denied it! This is all my fault! If I had realized it all sooner, maybe then....I could have stopped this all from..."
"Dont say that. Its not true." Vincent said firmly. "The fault lies squarely on me because I didnt have the strength to stop Lucrecia 35 years ago. None of this is your fault." And then he gently pulled your hands away from your face. "Meeting you has been the only redeeming thing in my life in all those years. Of course I could say the same for Cloud and the others but its always been different. Its always been about revenge. And when that was over and Hojo was finished I had no reason to keep going on. But then there was you and no matter how cold I was to you or how many times I rebuffed you, you were always there."
He set you down on your own to legs but kept his arms locked around your torso to keep you supported and up right. With your chin rested on his chest so you were forced to look up at him he went on. "You always had a smile, a joke, a word of wisdom, a story ....you always had something to tell me but I was often too stupid to listen. So now, let me return to favor. Let me carry you a little and lighten your burden."
You shook your head. "Dont do this out of guilt."
He protested lightly. "I'm doing it because I want to and because I care about you."
You wrapped your arms around him and buried your face in his chest and stood there with him for a few moments before you pulled away and turned towards the visage of the goddess still towering over you.
"Minerva, You chose me for whatever reason to carry on your legacy in this world. I have never understood it, not once, even with my past being what it is, I dont think there is any redeemable quality about me that would ever allow me to be your avatar. But I am and thats okay. I can accept it even if I dont agree with it. So if you still find me worthy, make me your vessel in this world and I will carry it with pride and honor.....just like Angeal once told me to a long time ago." Then you reached up your hand as she did the same and laid her armored palm against yours as wisps of green light surrounded the both of you and her armor transferred onto your body. She faded away with the green light and you stood in her place, adorned with cerulean armor and a glaive of gold in you hand as you turned back to Vincent.
He looked with awe at the figure you had become and felt both small and fragile, like a tiny insect compared to you, but the peace and tranquility that came from your being caressed his Chaos side. That mythical creature that lurked in him recognized and bowed down to you, enamored by the light the way a moth was to the flame and caused strange feelings to grow in his stomach. Like butterflies and a sense of something coming, Chaos was trying to join its master but the human shell it dwelt in held it back and it agonized to be with her. Vincent gasped at this feeling and fell to his knees as you approached him and cupped hand under his chin gently.
Tilting his face up to your you said. "Now, my faithful servant and lover, we have work to do." and with that you lifted the glaive and tapped its base curtly on the ground creating a loud ping sound which broke the dream like place around into pieces and set you both free.
You were suddenly standing back in the throne room of Cosmos and she stood up at the sight of you two. Vincent looked around the strange area and then at the woman on the throne as you took a step forward, leading him towards her with your hand in his.
"My sister....You have returned safely...I am pleased." She said with a smile. "And with your beloved no less. I am pleased to meet you Vincent."
He stood silently with wide wonderous eyes at the woman and couldnt find any words to say back to her. This was his first time seeing her or even encountering someone like her so what would a dark creature like him have to say to the Goddess of the Cosmos? You sensed his confusion and pinched his hand a little. He looked at you and then gave a small bow to your kinswoman. "I regret not knowing much about you in return." He said curtly.
She gave a small laugh. "As it should be. Knowledge of this world is meant to be hidden on purpose."
"Where is the Emperor now?" You asked, getting back to the matter at hand.
"As we speak he is attempting to infiltrate your dimension using his Titan mannequins but not all is lost. The gate still stands, though weak in your absence, the fact you are still living means he cant come through completely."
"Then there's a chance to drive them back and seal the gate for good.." You said touching your chin thoughtfully. "But If I do that it pushes him into another world...."
"You needn't worry about it. In the other worlds there are warriors and goddesses just like you, all doing their part." She reasoned.
"You're right....I cant control anything outside my own dimension. But what about your safety? He may try to come back here and harm you." You warned.
From behind her thrown a unusual man stepped out and stood by her side. His armor was strangely medieval and colored with blue and gold pieces, worn down by time and battle but well fitting and regal. He was tall with a sword and shield in each hand and a helm with two long horns that protruded above his head. You had never seen armor like that in your world which meant clearly he was taken from another. The helm covered most of his head and face but you could see a youthful and handsome visage staring back at you with strong blue eyes and silvery white hair falling just past his shoulders.
When he spoke up his voice was loud and clear with a strong sense of nobility behind it. "If that should happen, I will defend Cosmos with my life."
You watched this young warrior silently, measuring his demeanor and the atmosphere that surrounded him before giving a small nod. "I have no idea who you are Warrior....but I trust your words. Until we can meet again, take care, both of you." By the way he glanced down at his Goddess you could tell there was a bit more between them then simply protector and ward. He was to her what Vincent was to you and you smiled to yourself as you turned back to your own guardian.
"Time to wake up." You smiled as squeezed his hand and once again tapped your glaive on the ground.
