Vincent X Genesis X reader
"What on earth are those?!" Reeve gasped as he peered through Shinra issued Bincoluars. On the deck of the Highwind he and Rufus gazed down at the remains of the crater and saw the hoard of black titans crawling out of it like bugs festering in a open wound.
"Weapons?" Rufus asked as he snatched the binoculars from Reeve. "No...something new....."
"They are heading out across the world!"
"Then we must stop them." Rufus said simply as he pulled out his cell phone and dialed a number. "Tseng, pull your forces together and call up anyone who owes me a favor, we have a legion to take on. Get in touch with Junon and see what weapons and personnel are left."
"Oh Lord this is like the Jenovian war all over again..." Reeve groaned to himself. "We have to stop those things from getting close to any towns!"
*********
People screamed as the first of the Giant Black Titans approached the town of Icicle Lodge. Its footsteps shook the ground and rattled the windows of the houses in their frames as people froze and stared at the towering collosus coming towards them. Some tried to run out of town, others shut their doors and windows and hid under their tables as it smashed through the first line of houses and swung its big beefy arms around, hitting anything and everything like a wrecking ball with absolutely nothing to stand in its way or stop it. After all, it towered a good 100 feet tall. Who on earth could stop something that size easily? All the towns people could do was try to get out of its way and pray for help.
*********
"What in tarnations....?!" Cid stood outside his home with his cig barely hanging between his lips as he looked on the horizon to see the massive black giants moving towards Rocket Town. He rubbed his eyes once to make sure he was seeing right and the ran around the back of his house to where he parked the Cierra out in the fields. He knew what was coming and as he raced onto the bridge to kick start the engine he quickly pulled out his PHS and dialed Cloud's number. Shit was going down fast and he had to stall it for as long as possible.
*********
The PHS in Vincent's pocket vibrated and he flipped it open. Only a simple message displayed on the screen: Come to Banora. She is here. He furrowed his brow for a moment before shoving it back into his pocket and turning towards the east. Shelke, who had been walking by his side looked at him and knew what it all meant so silently ran along with him across the lands.
*********
Banora was in the same shape that it had been left in, desolation, and the recent happenings there did nothing to change the tarnished topography. Vincent made his way down into the same cavernous depths that You and Shelke had tread during your initial investigation and came to the same underground arena where the Goddess Statue sat tilting dangerously to one side as the earth caved in under its own weight. In front of the statue on hard ground lay you and none the worse for wear, laid out neatly with your hands folded over your stomach and the loveless book placed conveniently under them. Even though dried blood caked to your shoulder and leg, you looked to be peacefully sleeping and ever so alone.
Vincent ran to your side and knelt down to check your wounds as Shelke peered over his shoulder. He checked the pulse in your neck and gently peeled back the damaged uniform to investigate your arrow wound. It was still open and festering but not bleeding which meant it had clotted over from the inside so atleast he didnt have to worry about you bleeding to death. But your face was pale and your breath shallow which meant you werent too far away from that.
Genesis stepped out from around the back of the statue. "We both ended up in the Northern Crater and I brought her back here. That was 3 days ago. She hasnt moved since then."
Vincent placed a hand on your cheek to feel your temperature and also for subtle affection. "The sleeping willow...."
"She took too much and though it wont kill her, its left her in torpor." Genesis said quietly and gazed up at the old statue's soft face. "This is her sanctuary."
"Mannequins are running amok in the world since she fell into this." Vincent said.
"I'm aware of that....and so I leave her in your grace and care."
"What will you do?"
"I can control the Tsviets, though I loathe to do it, but it seems some supplementary forces will be needed in the world. I will gather them and fight on her behalf. Its what she would want." He announced.
"Rufus will be obliged." Vincent said.
"I'd rather not have anything to do with Shinra."
"That makes two of us."
Genesis gave a sad smile. "Then for once we agree on something. When she awakens, tell her that I will wait for her at the Northern Crater. It seems the Atmos Gate will appear there. I will try to stall it in the meantime. Oh, and dont try to get too cozy with her in my absence."" He turned to walk away and left the other two to their own devices.
Once his presence was gone Vincent turned to the young girl at his back. "Is there something you can do for her?"
Shelke thought on it and knelt down. "She wanted me to project her mind into another dimension to she could commune with Cosmos but I think in this state, with her body like this, her mind may not be here with it. I can try to send you into her psyche so you can retrieve her or at least follow after her. You might be able to bring her back."
He didnt hesitate. "Tell me what to do." and she reached into her cable knit sweater and pulled out a small vial of white liquid. It was sleeping willow tincture and he didnt have to think twice on what she was asking him to do.
He took the bottle and quickly gulped down the contents as she laid himself out next to you and took you hand in his. Tilting his head to the side to gaze at your sleeping profile, he closed his own and cleared his mind. Shelke put a hand on his forehead and took in one deep breath before she activated her sensitive dive nueral telepathy and pushed her own spirit into his.
*********
You looked at your hands and saw the soft ethereal glow of light surrounding your astral body and new you were separated from your physical form. While this was convenient for the moment, in the throne room of Cosmos, it also meant you were incredibly limited and could only talk to her, not intervene on her behalf in anyway. You had to tread carefully in this plane.
As you approached the crystalline throne where she sat, poised as a queen with her soft features at ease, she opened her closed eyes and for a moment regarded you before giving a faint smile.
"I told you not to come her and yet you braved it anyway. That must mean the Emperor has tampered with your world." She said with sad eyes that were filled with kindness. "I am sorry I cannot do more for you Minerva."
"I know you are limited as the Fulcrom and balance of the Yggdrasil. "You said in a voice with a shadowy echo. "You cannot protect all of the 9 worlds at once. But please, tell me what is going on....tell me who I am."
"You can not remember anything?" She asked with a sad look.
You shook your head. "I remember bits and pieces of a life I once had...of maybe a person I used to be but it feels like ages ago. Up until about 10 years ago I had no idea I might even be something like you."
"And you dont think you can continue on unless you know for sure about your own memories." She stated.
"I cant." You shrugged. "I have no confidence in myself anymore. I want to know who I am."
She gave a slow nod. "In the beginning, millenia ago, when the 9 worlds were forming, gods and goddesses from our realm sent themselves to their respective worlds to act as protectors and guides to the species living in each one and to safeguard the planets. Though the ideal was that all kinds could travel freely from one realm to another, wars were all to common and other forces from the outside decided to try to overthrow the 9 realms. The gates were erected by each god and goddess to lock out any dark influences but it came at a price. They lost their own physical forms and became the gates themselves and a portion of their divine power reincarnated into human form. You were given a peice of Minervas power and thus you are acting as her in her place in your world and share all of her divinity and immortality, a companion and protector of both the earth and its Atmos Gate."
"And in other worlds there are similar gates?" You confirmed.
"Yes." She said. "While yours has the Atmos gate, another has the Pandemonium Gate, and another the Ultima Gate and so on and so on."
"And you protect the other side of each gate in this central place..."You confirmed to yourself. "Then who is this Emperor? What does he want?"
She closed her eyes. "That man...has the power of the gods but is not a god. He tampers with the nine worlds in hopes that he can become one and uses warriors from each of the worlds for his own games and machinations. In time, to counter what he has done, I will also have to call forth Champions."
"Wait, if the gate is still erected....how did he come through? How is he projecting these mannequins into my world?"
"The amount of turmoil in your world has been tremendous and without your full acceptance of your goddess hood the gate is weakened. Also, each gate can be summoned into the physical world via your crystal."
"Crystal?" You asked, the idea of any crystal was new to you. "You mean the crystal acts as a kind of key?"
"Your worlds crystal was already destroyed years ago." She said sadly.
You had to think for a moment. What on earth had been the crystal and where did it go? You had never heard any legend of it nor any information during your days with Shinra except one thing. You gasped. "Oh my god.....it was the Black Materia." That rock hadnt just been Sephiroths chance at destroying the world but also Meteor must of had the ability to break the gate along with destroying the planet which is why the Cetra tried so hard to hide it away.
You shook your head and looked at her with resolve. "We have no time to waste then. I am ready."
She raised a pale elegant arm and pointed behind you as you turned around to see a normal sized red framed ornate door. It looked gothic in design and had gold filigree going down its scarlet red frame.
She explained to you. "This is the doorway into your own mind. If you go there, I cant help you so what you see in there is for you and you only."
"If what I see in there is too terrible then...." You began.
"Then you will not return." She said in a soft but foreboding tone but you had already made up your mind and wrapped your ghost like hand around its long handle and turned it as light spilled from the opening.
