Description This is my newest cosplay from Studio Ghiblis the Cat Returns movie. In the movie Haru wears this gorgeous ballgown during one of the scenes. I made this dress to attend a Studio Ghibli cosplay gathering but sadly I had to cancel because we had a nasty rain storm blow in that weekend.

I made this dress from plain yellow cottons which I interfaced because the fabric itself was pretty flimsy but the color was right so i tried to compensate for it. I used about 8 yards total. For the pattern I barrowed a Simplicity Elizabethan dress pattern I had in my stash and altered the sleeves.

I made the neck frill by taking white eyelet cotton and hot glued it to a plastic plate shaped peice with a neck whole cut out. The fish barrett and necklace are airdry clay.

It took about one month to make and I still have to do a few revisions to the top for sizing reasons.

Photos were taken at home, I will try to do a garden shoot when it stops raining. Hope you like it!

Hello! I adore your cosplays! Im cosplaying this next spring and i would like to know for future references on how you did this. (if i don't ask now i probably wont remember) and yours is by far the best cosplay of haru i have yet to see ^^ i have a few questions i would hope to know.

Did you use patterns?
Are the skirt and bodice/corset thing attached?
how did you make the neck thing?
is that your real hair?
How many yards (estimated) would you say this dress took you?
How was it able to be put on and taken off?did you use zippers or velcro if not what did you use?
how many hours did it take you (guesstimated) to make this?

Thanks for the comment! Lets see what advice i can give you:

I used a simplicity brand elizabethan dress pattern, Just altered it slightly.
The skirt and corset are not attached, they are seperate.
The neck frill pattern comes with the dress pattern and instructions we included.
Yes that is my real hair.
I used about 8-9 meters of fabric and wore hoops underneath.
I used a zipper for the back.
It took me about 3-4 weeks to make.

Hope that helps!
