Again, not trying to be mean, but a few things I'd like to point out:
Shuppets feed off of negative emotions; a more frilly, positive-looking design would get in the way of that and make a person most likely feel more positive.
The zipper on a Bannette keeps the mouth closed for a reason; should it open, the Bannette's spirit would be released and it would be nothing more than a plush; Bannette's are able to keep it closed even if somebody pulls on the zipper, though. However, multiple zippers/scars would just be a hindrance and more difficult to keep closed at the same time and would, ironically, make it weaker.
