Edit:I NEVER SAID IN HERE THAT ANIME IS NOT ART, PLEASE STOP SPAMMING MY FRONT PAGE AND SENDING ME NOTES, ALL YOU'RE DOING IS MAKING YOURSELF LOOK LIKE A DUMB ASS BECAUSE I LAUGH AND CLICK THE X BUTTON EVERY TIME I SEE ONE, YOU ARE NOT EFFECTING ME WHAT SO EVER SO GIVE IT UP.Read the description before you comment and make yourself look stupid.
Comments now enabled because I'm sick of my page being spammed with comments I could care less to read, realize that you posting a comment here does not mean I will read it or respond, I will likely not do either of the two.
Ok before you read this or flame me remember that this is MY OWN opinion and I am not in anyway trying to change yours.
I have NOTHING against anime at all, it is not my favorite but I do not hate it, in fact I do enjoy a few animes such as Wolf's Rain, Evangelion, Hellsing, Excel Saga, and a few more. HOWEVER I am SICK and TIRED of people saying "anime is the best!" "I love anime!" "look I can draw anime!" "anime is so original!" when no one is really saying bluntly that anime sucks and that it is not art. and then I go to the front page of DA and see nothing but huge eyed anime girls with balloon like breasts, nipples the size of salami slices, and slutty clothing with the letters "kya" sketched next to it. All these pieces look as if they were drawn by the same person. I am NOT at all saying anime is not a cool style, it is an awesome style if used properly.
You can look through my favorites and see many anime pictures by artists here on DA I enjoy. What bugs me is when people claim their anime has style opposed to any other anime. Anime is a vast area of art, they're cartoons. People who obsess over anime characters as if they were real need to get out more.
I think if more artist stopped looking at pictures of anime girls or whatever that other people drew and just basically tracing it, and began to develop their own style this place and the art community as a whole would be a lot better.
Also this does not by any means mean I enjoy dogs with huge ears, anime eyes, 'kawaii' features, hair, and the cartoon animal style a lot of people share. This stamp focuses on anime but it goes for all art that needs more stylizing.

Even still, if you think anime has no emotion, then you've never even watched anime whatsoever, or at least any good anime.

I have watch Spirited Away. It probably is the only good anime I've seen where they at least try to animate.
Other than that, i've seen samples of other shows and none of them even come close to half the quality of that.
But then again, exceptions are not the rule.

Well sorry if I came of a bit edgy their, when peopleΒ

awful, critique is different as one is giving tips toΒ

Well in come places, and some people Anime is just as high asΒ
any western comic art or cartoon, there will never be an ultimateΒ

I agree with this! I do really enjoy watching anime but I dislike people as you said that are not developing there own style and doing the same anime style of drawing over and over again
It gets kind of boring. I have a more realistic style and actually emphasize the nose.

I dare anyone to find any scene in anime that even remotely came close to expressing their animation as emotionally as this:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJHbJ5β¦
If anime can't even come to the quality of this example, it doesn't deserve to exist.

I don't know, I watched that and got no emotion out of it what so ever. The animation quality, or lack there of didn't help the matter. It honestly just looked dumb, and dull and the colour design was bland.Β
In all honesty anything by Hayao Miyazaki/Studio GhibliΒ could blow this out of the park and then some... Then again most animation studio's regardless of where they come from could do the same.
But then again I am not going to say it doesn't deserve to exist just because I happen to not like it, that would be incredibly selfish.Β

Regardless of the quality, it has more emotional weight just because it does look human. It could be a flip book animation and it's still would be a well done portrayal of emotion. Not saying all faces and posture has to be human but it does have to look like a living creature that can feel.
Anime in terms of this fails to do so not just because of stiff budgets and cheap animation tricks. They also lack an ability to even convey any humanity unless through heavy handed story telling methods which...feels empty really.
Also Hayao Miyazaki is an exception, not the rule. Keep that in mind.

Can you name another company that stands head and shoulder above the rest?
If you do you are lying because no other company comes even close to Disney quality work, which even then is still not on par.
But I'll give it that at least they try, unlike the majority if not 99% of the rest of the medium.

You might just be looking at the wrong animes. Anime probably just isn't for you, but a lot of them do try, at least. I'm no Otaku myself, so I don't know every anime out there (I've actually only seen about 15 or 16), but with alot that I've watched, it's easy to tell they tried. I could say the same thing that alot of Western Cartoons don't try. But at the same time, alot of them do. There's two sides to everything.

And I have to completely disagree, again like I said I felt nothing watching this piece of animation. No emotional weight, nothing at all. Which was only magnified by the lack of quality.Β
I feel that would apply to a studio such as A1-Pictures, now they are particularly bad at relying on cheap tricks to save on budget and churning out poor quality works. Although the SAO crowd would probably hang me for suggesting such things... But to be honest this isn't indicative of every studio out there.
Again I have to disagree with you, I think they can portray emotion well and to be honest I don't see a huge difference as to how it is portrayed in western animation. I'm honestly interested in knowing what anime's you've seen to come to this idea? As for heavy handed story telling, well it all depends on the anime you are going into, some are simply written better than others, and it also comes own to personal taste.Β
I used Hayao Miyazaki as an example simply due to the wide exposure his works have. For other examples, Studio Madhouse has a rather nice collection of anime series/movies varying in style and theme.Β

I don't know what timewap is on about this animation is fluid, colourful and dynamic.Β
But we are the guy who chose 'the brave little toaster' as his example, a film with awful story telling, rushed character development and clunky animation. So I wouldn't be to offended.

Timewap1 In reply to Ninethousandfanfics [2016-01-30 23:20:07 +0000 UTC]
Not impressed.
Inconsistent limited animation.
More fluid but lacking the actual subtle movement one would find in a shifting body.
Same anime character forms as any other.
Too short.

I'm sorry for the late response.
So you have problem with the way I define animation...?
Hmmm?
Oh that's fine.
However, you probably never studied art in any capacity and most likely taking it personal because it is an interest of yours rather than your principals being offended, with no facts to back up your claims other than ad hominem and lack of understanding.
Well...I'm glad we never have to be associates in any capacity.

I am so with you on that. I use to only draw anime and my art teacher didn't really care for it. My mother worried a bit about me because all my girls had huge boobs. After awhile I got bored of the same anime after anime with the same style and trying to do what everyone else was doing. So I decided to make my own style! It is hard and difficult and I still struggle to not to draw anime but I am more proud of my drawings then ever. I still like anime , but my favorites are Dragon ball z , Avatar the last air bender, one piece because they showed me that just because their all anime they all don't have to look the same.π

I see a LOT of generalizing here. Sure you will see some of these pathetic things happening, but that is in no way what Anime is about and not all of it is like that. So the truth is there's some Anime you like and some you don't. But it's not fair to blame everyone for the attributes that only exist in some bad Anime art. I hope that makes sense.
