Description
  Ginger walked through the city of Somnebula, though it was a mighty big challenge.
The residents would pelt her with rotten tomatoes and stones yelling things such as "Begone Sphinx! Or the hopeful soul of Somnebula will rid of you herself!" or "You and your foul kinds riddles must leave our town!" (She was actually very bad at riddles)

  She proceeded nonetheless. After reading AK yearling's newest novel- Daring Do and the Legend of the Sphinx, (Which once again displayed that strange rainbow haired Pegasus on the cover) Ginger felt the urge to travel to this foreign place, in hope of discovering more about her culture. She understood that the sphinx had lived hundreds of years ago, but perhaps if the curse of the flightless spell was still there then maybe... That was of course, only if Yearling put any fact into her story. It could be completely fake for all Ginger knew.

After finally navigating to the pyramid of Somnebula Ginger entered the looming dark hall. Making sure she was alone, she called out.

"Hello. Is anyone there? Sphinx?"

There was no response.

She continued on.

  Ginger continued on through the foreboding hall until an acid green light appeared. She entered a room that displayed a large acidic pit along with a pillar in the center. There was no means across other than word of AK of jumping across (a risk she was not quite willing to take)

She peered over the edge of the pit. "I wonder..." She thought

Wanting to see of the curse was true, she attempted to spread her wings. It was a successful attempt She wasn't sure what to think of this. Perhaps it was just because the legend was fake.... Or maybe because she wasn't quite a pony...

  She peered around to make sure she wasn't being watched then flew in the direction of the pillar. Sure enough, there was something there- A paw shaped slab. It seemed a little large, but it was definitely not for a pony's reach. Not turning back now, she placed her right paw into the stone and pressed down.

As soon as she pressed it, a large woosh sounded from behind her. She turned seeing a large mass of flames go up at the entrance where a figure began to form.

She remained hovering as the flames began to take the shape of a large pink figure... It was the sphinx.

The sphinx took a long stretch arching her back, then yawned.

She turned her head toward Ginger and stared at her with intensity, as if determining what she was.

A moment later she turned towards the hall and with a flick of her tail motioned Ginger to follow.

She followed.

After walking a little, the sphinx stopped and turned, staring directly into Gingers eyes.

She felt a sudden urge to sit under the gaze.

Putting her haunches to rest, she sat in front of the looming pink figure.

Silence.

"So this is what has come of my kind..." spoke the sphinx finally. "its so... Small.... Why are you tiny little sphinx?"

  Ginger did her best to not fluff out in embarrassment of this question. "M-my mother was a sphinx and my father was a pegasi... Raine and Shooting Star... I didn't realize sphinxes ever became much larger."

The sphinx roughly looked sideways clearly in frustration. "Well whats the largest sphinxes come in your day?"

"Er- about my size mam. Sometimes a bit larger."

The silence resumed.

Sphinxes eyes began to swell.

"Ar-are there are there even any more ever even heard of like me? Like you even?" She asked, her words broken.

Taken aback by the tears she stammered "I-I'm sorry. There's very few like me. Only around 20 or so that I've seen record of... I haven't heard of any others..."

  Wiping away her tears with her paw she sighed, then sat up. She lowered her head for a moment more then looked back at Ginger. She spoke "Why did you come here?"

Ginger, snapped back to reality, "I- well, I'd like to know more about Sphinxes from you please- if your comfortable doing so of course."

The sphinx smiled. "I'd love to"

So this was basically an idea (and opportunity) I had after watching "Daring Done". I was literally so happy that they actually put sphinxes into an episode, that I couldn't resist not having them meet. Anyway, there will be a followup story coming soon (hopefully). Thanks for reading this far!

Oh yeah! Also tell me any suggestions for the background! This is my first time trying to do a shaded background so its kinda bad, but any tips are appreciated!
