Description

Since Bugsy doesn't get much fanart, I thought I'd draw him again, this time with a Pokemon.

I'm actually pretty content with this background. I feel like I may have gotten something down finally but I need more practice. Maybe I'll use this specific illustration in a future background painting tutorial.

In the dub Bugsy had the same voice actor as Richie, since 4kids used the same type of little boy voice for every younger male character in the show. Just like Lisa Ortiz voiced nearly all the female characters in Johto and Hoenn.

Bugsy also only ever got 1 episode in Johto, so the anime didn't even give him much screentime. Then again it was the Johto saga, an arc where the writers had no idea how to develop characters yet (Misty, Brock and Gary all got royally screwed over by Johto's poor writing), so I'm not surprised.

Its kinda funny when you stop to realize the Johto saga really did bomb the original trio as a group forever, with Misty being permanently dropped after the writers doing very little with her but having her hold Togepi in the sidelines, Gary barely appearing in what was his last saga as a major rival, and even though Brock stayed for AG and DP...we all know he barely did anything in either saga but his repetitive flirting gag.

Thinking about this now over 13+ years later, it really does explain a lot why Johto really was the end of the road for certain characters and writing styles. I guess the only thing the Johto arc serves as a reminder of is the writers first attempt to continue the anime after the classic Kanto/Orange Islands seasons, and not knowing what to do with the series. Too bad the entire original cast like Misty, Brock and Gary all got royally screwed over by the process before the writers learned how to develop characters in all the later seasons.

TBH I thought the anime from Whitney's gym to season 5 was pretty good compared to how most people think of it, at least a lot better than from the beginning of Johto to Whitney's gym. From my childhood I remember getting pissed off at every filler there was, since episodes only came once a week and I'd have to wait so long to see an interesting episode. Somewhere after Bugsy, the show seemed to pick up. I dunno, it's been a long time.

That’s pretty interesting observation, I had similar thought when seeing what “Best Wishes” turned into, from Season/Arc which was SUPPOSED to be best one in the series, authors clearly learning after (so highly rated for some reason, I didn’t liked the gen itself, got me out of Pkmn) Diamond/Pearl.

What later become of it I need not to mention, I miss the characters like Flint/Pierce especially , we’d probably NEVER learn with which Pokémon he was supposed to fight!

I can't Bayleef it's not a grill!

(Please… Don't tell me it's the ONLY reason you drew him . The proceeding sissification in Pokémon gen after gen is a bit of worrisome ).

I like him though of course there are so many gym leaders in the franchise that I can't say he's my top favorite. I don't even know who my top favorite is anymore... Falkner?

Also, I overdosed on Clair in high school. Unfortunately I can't seem to find a new name for myself and I've tried a few so far.
